Let me preface this review by saying that I enjoy the occasional gorefest. Peter Jackson's Braindead is one of my favorite horror movies of all time, and its climactic scene involves a lawnmower and a literal red sea of blood.

That being said, I hated Hostel: Part 2 with the fury of 1,000 suns. Eli Roth has created a film so morally bankrupt that you have to wonder whether the guy tortures small animals in his spare time. This movie has absolutely nothing to say; it is extreme violence for the sake of extreme violence - horror porn, as many other critics are already calling it.

The movie opens with a ten-minute sequence that ties up a loose end from the first movie. This scene is puzzling because it is never referenced again. Then, we’re introduced to our protagonists: Beth (the trust-fund girl), Lorna (the nerd), and Whitney (the slut). On their travels backpacking through Europe, they meet the ominously named Axelle (played by a Russian model). She seems innocent enough, but anyone with half a brain should know where she’s going to lead these girls.

New to the sequel is a sub-plot involving two businessmen, who we soon learn are off to kill some nubile co-eds: Todd, who is gung-ho about torturing and killing, and Stuart, who is anxious about the whole ordeal. This sub-plot resolves itself so predictably that one is left to wonder why it was added. One discovers he hates killing, while the other taps his inner Ed Gein. Groundbreaking.

In a surprise twist, one of our protagonists is led not to the hostel, but to the lair of a vampire fetishist. Here, she is strung up, naked, and mutilated with a scythe while the vampire vixen below her, also naked, bathes in her blood. The viewer is treated to a horrendous amount of crying and screaming, until the victim’s throat is finally slit.

I won’t spoil the rest, since, presumably, the gore is what you’re buying a ticket for – there’s nothing else redeeming about the film. With Hostel: Part 2, Roth has further illustrated his inability to make a coherent film. The tone of the final scene is such a departure from the rest of the film that you have to wonder if the film crew ran out of money and thought, hey, let’s end this bad boy on a high note. In a horror-comedy, like the aforementioned Braindead, the last scene would get a laugh. But since we’re dealing with horror-porn, it’s just bizarre.

As the credits roll, the viewer is left to ponder the film’s meaning. Many critics thought the first film was a commentary on how the rest of the world views Americans. They must have dug really deep for that one. I’ll take solace in the fact that no matter how hard they dig in Hostel: Part 2, the only moral they’ll find is this: God bless capitalism. Maybe then, they’ll realize Roth is just a hack masquerading as an auteur.

PROS: Plenty of male/female nudity
CONS: Hackneyed plot, wooden characters, no build-up of suspense

Hello, IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again?
I thought that this movie was very bad, but entertaining. My favorite scene was the soccer scene at the end. My friends and I were the only ones laughing at how ridiculous this was.

I was laughing my rear end off in the theater because the last 10min of this movie were so ridiculous. Go see Oceans 13 or Knocked Up instead.

I send you this file in order to have your advice!
I liked this movie. I'm not sure why but I did. Maybe it was the circular saw to the face, the out of nowhere beheaded dude from the last movie with the cat licking the blood on his neck where his head used to be or the dude getting his business cut off with scissors but I enjoyed the movie!

An ape.
I went in for the nudity and gore, I came out a happy customer. If you enjoyed Hostel you will enjoy Hostel 2, pure and simple. If blood and titties precede plot coherency for you then I highly recommend the movie.

I went into this hoping there would be more gore than the first film (which I thought wasn't half-bad, except that it didn't live up to the gore-hype), and I was sorely disappointed. Not only was there a lack of gore for my tastes, but the plot was uninspired & predictable. If you want to watch something for the sake of boobies & blood, there are literally hundreds of better movies you could rent for that purpose.

Togetha?
Is it me or do I get a feeling of deja vu when I see this film? It is like an exact replication of Hostel except with a small twist and different people. Don't worth the ticket price. With this said, if you really really really liked the first movie then this is right up your alley.

Overall: 2/5

Plenty of Nudity, if you like plenty of dicks. Not hardly enough female nudity, only a few good scenes of gore, and a horrible plot.

Eli Roth has once again had me laughing in a "horror" movie. From the ridiculous amount of nudity, to the just plain stupid portrayl of "torture" and "murder" that would make most of our history's worst serial killers laugh at the pure ridiculousness of it. I disliked the first film because of it's three part Teen Film - Gore film - Revenge film format, and I thought given that that was at crux of most of the reviews he'd abandon it, and it wasn't exactly the same, but still horrible pacing and plot.

Overall Hostel Part II suffers from bad pacing, plot, and acting. Agony In Pink would make a better gore film.

Fire Down Below: Crab Company 2
I liked this movie for a few reasons: 1. Being the gore of it all and 2. Better story to cushion said gore. Of course all the gore scenes look fake as hell, which killed it for me kinda. I mean i dont want to sound completely disturbed but the movie could have used more blood, yes folks its a less-bloody gore-movie but thats ok it kinda made up for it when that 9 yr old got blasted in the face!
