Careful, Spirit Armor: ShadowCatboy's almost done with the Planescape Torment LP, which means you'll only have a few months of buffer before you're responsible for the longest-running LP on the forums.

Well, I'm not the callow youth I used to be, let me tell you - free of cares and responsibilities, with leisure time to seek out amusing-and-yet-disturbing images to hide behind emoticons, or even behind invisible links in my posts. Those were truly the halcyon days of my posting career - at least in this thread, when the mere appearance of my avatar - with its queer resemblance to - could strike fear in an unsuspecting forums user, who knew not why his finger trembled on the mouse as it passed over a smiley. Those truly were halcyon days. But they are in my past, now, just as this thread seems now to be in Spirit Armor's. For how can I post new and hidden images not knowing if they might ever be appreciated? How can I hide links in a thread in what might well be its days of winter, in the metaphorical nursing home of the LP forum, looking out at some sunset beyond the window of its metaphorical room, sighing at the memories of its past? As the emoticon reminds us, old age awaits us all - posts and posters, threads and forums. Anyway. It would take something to bring the spark back into my posting here, and Spirit Armor must provide it. Too much , perhaps, to express such a simple sentiment, but nevertheless... Edit: I've... seen things you people wouldn't believe... Burned images into my mind from decades-past Comikets... read doujins in the dark to find postable things. All those moments... will be lost in time, like... tears... in rain. Edit 2: You know, I ought to slap a tag in there, just to be safe. Roar posted:To be fair, he hasn't posted anywhere on the forums other than this thread since at least 2008. Well, I guess unless Spirit Armor pops back into the thread, this game is up. Kind of a shame, too; I think a lot of people follow it, if only casually, because of how infamous it's become. But three months is longer than it I really hope it's not dead, though. I do want to see the end of this game, and I actually do feel a little worried about SA not showing up in the new year - even if only to say 'hey, I'm not dead'. We could always just pretend we know how it ended, whip up a few epilogues all Clue/Animal House style! Maria Tachibana changed her name to "Hawkeye" and was recruited as a medical specialist with the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. The publication of her latest medical paper, "Sure-Shot Surgery: Accuracy and Targeting Illness", has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Sumire Kanzaki and Kanna Kirishima now run a local production of "Punch & Judy: Live". At current they are still searching for financial backers, and an insurance agent willing to cover Acts of God. Iris Chateaubriand now attends Ewen High School, and is in her senior year. Ri Kohran moved to the United States and married Nikola Tesla. Together they developed new applications for the DC electrical grid, and became responsible for the modern body-modification movement. Ichiro Ogami died from heart failure. His body was discovered three days later under Sakura's mattress. Sakura Shinguji was arraigned in the Superior Court, County of Los Angeles. In a moment the results of that trial.

My local Gamestop had a copy of a Sakura Wars game in a big box the other day - I think the one that's supposed to be in America? ---------- VIDEO ALERT! Boss battle! And I don't have to split it into two or three chunks anymore. Oh, the wonder of technology! Youtube Link! ---------- Translator's Note: Technically, Shika and the others call themselves 'Kouma,' too; I just went with this stupidly direct translation to distinguish 'The Big Bad Bosses' from 'The Big Purple Flappy Eyeless Purple People Eater Cannon Fodder.' ---- [Ogami] ... [Ogami] Um, could I maybe get a recap of what's been happening? I'm not sure why, but it feels like this fight's lasted FOREVER. [Yoneda] Well, m' boy, once upon a time, your mom and pop got REALLY freaky, and you apparently popped out a few months later- [Ogami] - of more RECENT events. Sir. [Maria] Aoi Satan: Upgraded to main villain. #1, Porky, of the Three Completely Forgettable Bosses: Dead. #2, Bambi: On our To Be Killed list. [Ogami] Oh, hey, thanks for that nice and quick expository list, Maria! [Maria] Maria Tachibana: Demoted to Main Heroine of Romantic Love Comedy. Ichiro Ogami: Demoted to Man-Slave of Main Heroine. Everyone Else: Supporting Actr- [Ogami] HA HA HA boy it sure is good that no one heard ANY of that so let's hurry up and advance the happy fun times plot yay! ---- ---- DEMON-DRIVEN MECHANICAL SOLDIER UNYIELDING ICE'S EDGE ---- [Ogami] Oh my god! It's... it's...!! [Ogami] ... it's a palette-swapped ice version of Inoshishi's big fire robot. Except with the fiery bits exchanged for big ridiculous fans. [Ogami] See? [Shika] What!? No! Shut up! My robot is completely and utterly unique! [Kohran] Ah think it is Inoshishi's robot. See, that blue paint's peelin' and everythin'. [Shika] Of course the paint isn't peeling, miserable human! And I will have you know that there is absolutely nothing wrong with recycling Demon-Driven Mechanical Soldiers! [Kanna] Yeah, but, look- [Shika] Why, it's not as if Inoshishi will be using his robot anymore! This recycling is environmentally friendly! Yes... environmentally friendly! We're saving forests and all those who live within!! [Ogami] Um- [Shika] Now no more deer will have to get shot by heartless hunters, leaving those defenseless does to die slow, horrible deaths in front of their traumatized children. And those childrens' delicate, fragile hearts won't have to grow calloused and cold just to survive in this ugly, cruel world, and turn into demons and... and... [Ogami] ... okay, um, THAT gag setup got awkward fast. [Sakura] Ogami-san, I think we've triggered some sort of trauma switch. Can't we just- [Kohran] Kill th' fucker. [Sumire] E-Excuse me? Whatever are you- [Kohran] Ah came here expectin' to lay my eyes on some brand-spankin' new, highly improbable, rear end-kickin' piece of Warp-spawned machinery! An' this here sunnovabitch has th' gall to bring out a rehash!? KILL TH' FUCKER!! [Ogami] I don't know... somehow, I think I've lost all will to beat this guy's face in. We should probably just- [Maria] Captain, either you let Kanna murder the deer demon and eat venison, or I let Kanna murder you and eat Soylent Green. [Ogami] HOT-BLOODED JUSTICE MURDER KILL DEATH MAIM! ---- [Everyone] Understood! This boss fight's right at the crux of a 'T' intersection, with everyone in the middle and a few Kouma off to the sides. And once we deal with the usual Mountaining and Protecting... It's the usual dance of buffing ourselves up, debuffing the poor barstud, and kicking some rear end. With the trek from the starting point to the boss, though, close-ranged units like Kanna can't do a lot after getting into position. What we're REALLY interested in, though, is... ... the conversations. [Ogami] ........ [Ogami] ........ [Kanna] Ah... yeah, we're in battle and all, huh. My bad. I'll just ask you later or somethin'. And... ALL of these conversations follow the same basic pattern, hoping to lure you into revealing HORRIBLY important information for the sake of giving a slight relationship boost to whoever you gab this to. As a corollary, telling anyone about the Majinki horribly lowers Yoneda and Ayames' relationship stat with Ogami... because apparently, spilling state secrets is directly proportional to how strong Ogami's robot is. They're probably sitting down in the command room with a dial that reads "Power To Ogami's Jinbu." Ten bucks says they never let it rise higher than 50%. Anyway, I send the various Jinbu to start mopping up the random mobs surrounding our team while Ogami and Kanna start punching Shika in the face. And by 'sending in to mop,' I mean 'Maria reduces them to greasy purple smears.' With MORE than enough juice left over to lower Shika's attack. FINAL ATTACK ALERT! [Shika] Fallen Demon! The ordeal of the Ice's Edge! [Shika] Demon of Ice! Falling Maple Leaves! It does a hilariously low amount of damage, but... It has the added bonus of lowering our movement range. Which is still pretty pathetic, since these two aren't really GOING anywhere. Shika's attack range is one of his more annoying tricks- it extends in TWO directions for... oh, about infinity range. Granted, this would be more terrifying if he could actually do damage right now. [Ogami] What was that!? [Yuri] According to our analysis... those attacks freeze the Jinbu's power transmission system! [Kasumi] We believe that it will recover on its own with time, but... until then, it will restrict your movement. [Tsubaki] Please try to avoid getting hit by the enemy's attacks as much as possible. [Ogami] ... got it. We'll try to manage somehow!! ---- [Kanna] ... [Ogami] What? Why're you glaring at me like that? [Kanna] Captain, that sounds suspiciously like... like dodging. [Ogami] Well, we theoretically could, if these things were actually built for dodging. Amazing cutscene physics-defying spirit-charged badassery aside- [Kanna] HELL no! I refuse! Dodging is all sneaky and cowardly and crap! You and I are gonna stand RIGHT here, RIGHT in front of Shika, and take our totally unnecessary beatings like MANLY MEN. [Ogami] ... Kanna, you're not even a man. [Kohran] Hey now, that STILL ain't a scientifically proven fact, Ogami-han. [Kanna] What she said! [Ogami] Welp, who am I to argue in the face of wonderfully scientific illogic? ---- HEALING INFUSION OF BEAR... doesn't actually heal the status effect, annoyingly enough. Ah well. Sumire's poison technique, however, helps make Shika even LESS relevant to this battle. It also serves to make the following conversation even more depressing. [Shika] But that's to be expected for I, Shika. For it is I who is the strongest of the fallen demons!! [Ogami] Tsk... Waiting JUST a little bit changes the answer choices to: [Ogami] You are totally the strongest enemy we've faced so far!! Oh so strong! You are much too strong!! [Shika] H-How dare you make a fool out of me--!! You... you shall completely strike me down!! [Ogami] What do you THINK will happen if we strike you down... you meant to say 'strike US down,' right? [Yuri] Ahahahaha! I knew you'd be able to throw him off his game, Ogami-san!! [Yoneda] Ogami... just hurry up and deal with this idiot. [Ogami] Understood! Interestingly enough, choosing the wrong answer will actually power up Shika. Kind of like how the dating sim mechanic of "let's have a conversation" has applied to the girls on your team all game, except to incompetently evil middle-aged demon creature things. In that same turn, Ogami does a total of 473 damage to the poor bastard, plus an extra 29 with his remaining action bar. ... and that's BEFORE Kanna lowers Shika's defense. Sakura slaughters one of the side-Kouma and does a further 150 to Shika... The remaining Kouma causes some issues... And Maria completely shuts down the Kouma's NEXT attack with one of those turn-interrupting counters. I don't think my team has ever been in danger of even being SCRATCHED since the beginning of the game, to be honest. Excluding those times where you were meant to nearly lose against the enemy. Meanwhile, Kohran's in a horrible mood. I'm still not sure why. ---- [Kanna] ... [Sakura] ... [Maria] ... [Ogami] ... okay, I think we're through even TRYING to take you seriously. Kohran, can we fast-forward through the rest of this somehow? [Kohran] Ah've prepared jes' th' thing for this situation, Ogami-han! It's called the 'Auto-Pilot,' which functions off an AI routine that Ah programmed by basin' it off a hamster runnin' on a wheel. [Shika] What!? How DARE you mock me in such a manner! I REFUSE to allow you to skip my battle scene! Do you hear me!? I REFUSE- ---- ---- [Ogami] No! The enemy could be listening in on our communications! We have to DESTROY these guys first!! [Iris] Tsk! Oniichan, you're so selfish!! ---- [Shika] Foolish humans! I will make you RUE the day you- ---- ---- [Shika] AGHHHAGHHG STOP USING UNDERHANDED POISON TRICKS AND- ---- KER-ATTACK-BOOST KER-DEFENSE-DROPPER KER-OVERKILL
