They've played a couple new songs, see here for example. I'd assume those two are on the album, but no idea what the other two could be.

Edit: Unless one or two of those songs have been split into two tracks. Would fit with the length since the're both 15-20 min, and the total album length is 45ish.

One of my favorite bands right now is Tom's Story, they're a 3-piece band and have a great live presence. They're also a bunch of nerds, judging from the track titles. VL Raza is my favorite, then Mugatu.

I was digging through an old box of CDs the other day and I happened upon my copy of Kayo Dot's Choirs of the Eye. I got excited because I hadn't heard the album in a while so I ran it through my laptop. While I was storing it on my computer I decided to pull out the insert and look at the awesome art. To my surprise, the insert was autographed by at least 5 or 6 different people. I'm having a really hard time making out any of the signatures, and the only other writing that I'm confident I'm reading correctly is "To Todd, thanks for the (or "all") support" and "Yo Todd! Thanks!" I bought the album from a record store used years ago, and I can't remember any other significant details about it other than it was in the $2 bin.

So I ask all of you to help me identify any of the signatures/initials, and to help me figure out if it's actually signed by the band or if the insert is signed by some other group. I appreciate any help. Also I'm not totally sure if Kayo Dot is strictly post-rock or not, but I feel they fit in this thread well.

They're not strictly anything, but post-rock is one of the last things I'd call them.

Most of those signatures are pretty illegible. One looks like "Donald May" but I can't find anyone with a name like that in their list of members. Bottom right might be Toby's autograph? It would be super weird if some other band signed a Kayo Dot album.

Yeah, I had hesitations about that too. Maybe at the very least I was hoping that there would be fans here, in a relatively active thread, that could help me. You're right though, it was an error for me to lump them in here.

Thank you for the help though, I really do appreciate it.

And So I Watch You From Afar announced their new album today! It's called "The Endless Shimmering" and has a weird cover.

New single "A Slow Unfolding Of Wings" released as well:

This one I like very much. It has their positive signature vibe and should be a blast live.

Gross!
I thought "All hail bright futures" was the culmination of everything they do and stand for so I like that one the most. "Heirs" was quite meh, but for this new one they apparently locked themselves in for just nine days and pretty much live tracked the whole thing. Should be a different and straighter energy then, no? At least I hope it is.

Even if it's not I want to keep on supporting them. Back when they were so broke that they directly asked for donations I gave a pretty penny because they seem to be so hardworking, honest and just as humble as they come and I don't want to them quit just because they can't afford to be a band any more.

Bad Mogwai is still Great Music.

"Eternal Panther" sounds like REM which is funny to me

I haven't even heard the song but I was listening to Anthony Fantano's video about the best/worst tracks of the week the other day and he said Mogwai made a punk track.

My instant reaction was "...the gently caress? :stare: "

It sounded more interesting than what Mogwai's been doing, but I guess I'll have to actually hear the album to be sure.

Honestly I would rather have more A Silver Mt. Zion albums (or hell, another Efrim solo album!) but that song is loving amazing, best they've done since Lift Yr Skinny Fists (and very reminiscent of parts of that album, in fact)

As a huge fan of long post-rock songs, that track is pointless lol

It's 8 minutes of warmup to something that never happens.

I mean I guess it could be an extended intro to the song that comes after it? But if that's the case, I'll probably skip it when listening to the album as a whole and just go right to the second track if it actually has something happening.

I like Godspeed and I don't mind their long tracks if they build up to something (which they usually do), but this one never does.

And if there are only 4 tracks on the album and this is 1 of them, that kinda blows. I hope the other 3 are exceptional to make up for this one.

I mean, the last two GY!BE albums have been "2 tracks that are real songs and 2 that are noise/buildup" so it's to be expected. I disagree that this song is like that though, it is certainly buildup but there's a lot more interesting stuff going on than in, for example, "Their Helicopters Sing" or "Asunder Sweet".
