I feel tremendously embarrassed because I brought up shoegaze elements in post-rock and didn't mention CANADA'S OWN Southpacific. I'm listening to Constance and drat the guitars on the first track are so spacey I swear they are echoing into each other.

Something about that song made me think of Still Corners. Is it the shoe gaze? I don’t know how to describe shoe gaze but I’m pretty sure I know it when I hear it.

That reminds me of Metric

I gave up long ago on categorization. Post-rock? No, dumbass, they’re progressive. Progressive? Wrong, idiot, it’s post-metal

Oh yeah, baby. Frame your suffering as a masterpiece. Only one problem - no one's watching. It's boring, buddy, boring as death.
Not strictly post rock, but a bit more shoegaze, really enjoying the new Som

Not sure which thread this fits, but holy gently caress new Deafheaven is probably the best collection of songs they have ever released. There is not a single Deafheaven release I dislike, but I wasn't expecting this would be so good, it really feels like they have massively improved their songwriting skills from the past album to this one. Really digged the Boy Harsher feat too. Hope they come back here with this tour

New Deafheaven does indeed rule. I could do without the Incidental tracks, as those seem like filler, but all the others are great.

Man I havent checked in on this thread in a loooooooooong time and my av is even based on this thread.

Ive been pretty out of the loop with newer post-rock bands/releases for awhile.

Whats the new hotness? Any stand out bands? Up and comers?

Desperately need to get caught up outside of Spotifys algo.

Saw Explosions in the Sky live for the 5th time tonight. They played The Birth and Death of the Day, Greet Death and Your Hand in Mine (3 of my absolute favorite songs of theirs) and closed with The Only Moment We Were Alone. 11/10 show. Perfect. No notes.

Hell yeah. I really liked that the setlist wasn't dominated by stuff from their newest album End, as I haven't listened to that album much and am not familiar with those songs. They played 9 songs and 3 of them were from End.

Funky Bottoms is a land man
saw mogwai on monday at the 930. new stuff sounded good, as did everything with three guitars, but the sound was noticeably flat and weird for the older/quieter songs. the 930 generally has excellent sound, so it really stood out... and it doubly sucked since "kids will be skeletons" is one of my absolute favorite songs and they rarely play it. sigh. we got "my father, my king" and "we're no here," though, so that was sick- think they both got up to 120db.

not post-rock, but even if you're just a casual fan, brainiac still bring it and are definitely worth the extra 45 minutes.

Speaking of Mogwai, I just watched the Mogwai documentary If The Stars Had A Sound. It's very good and has some cool archival footage, though it's really only for established fans of the band. I don't think it's going to make any non-fans into fans.

It did make me want to visit Glasgow, though. I've never been before.

I just watched it too, going to go see them tonight in Denver and wanted to get prepared for it. Liked it more than the Neil Young: Coastal thing that just came out Thursday. Them almost getting into a fight at an award show because of Paul McCartney made me laugh, was a nice way to spend 90 minutes.

E: Didn't notice the guitar sounds being flat on any of the older stuff, ending the encore with Mogwai Fear Satan was so loving good. Fantastic show!

Godspeed is playing at a really beautiful cemetery here in Chicago. Seen Grouper play there before and the sound quality was wild for being outdoors so this may be an all-timer.
