I just found out the full 24 hour version is on Spotify... might have to give that a go. I got the vinyl pressing of the highlights and love it

i went to see mono in osaka last night, was pretty surprised cause the venue was tiny, like 150~ people absolute max, and about a quarter were other foreigners. i guess they don't have much of a following here? anyway, it was sick, just very very very loud, my ears are still ringing at work today

Hell yeah. I've seen Mono like...4 times? Maybe 5? And it's intense as gently caress every single time.

My mom's a big classical/piano music fan and she listens to this piano music station on Spotify a lot. One day I caught her listening to Avril 14th by Aphex Twin on there. She had no idea what it was and just thought it was any old song playing on her Spotify station.

I bet if I made her a playlist of softer/more classical sounding post-rock stuff, she'd be into it. Nothing heavy, though.

IMO: point her at Mogwai’s Les revenants soundtrack album. Lots of softer piano and woodwind tracks, beautiful compositions, and by the time it gets slightly heavy it’s almost over.

Thanks for reminding me about this album, I'm gonna put it on right now.

Also, for more downtempo piano stuff, The American Dollar is really good. And I actually really like the guy who did that poppy Fireflies song's solo project Port Blue. I love me some chill piano.

She's hardcore religious and thinks every metal band is Satanic.

I should trick her into listening to some softer post-metal stuff like Pelican's less heavy tracks. Or Russian Circles' more laid-back stuff hahaha

If you want uplifting, Caspian's most recent (Dusk and Disquiet) is probably a no. There are tracks of pure loving pain on it, I can hear it somehow. Waking Season is probably good, as are their first two (Four Trees, You Are The Conductor).

Some of my friends (including one of the guys I used to be in a band with) were in this post-metal band a couple years ago and I used to love seeing them live, and I knew they had been working on a release around that time but nothing ever surfaced. Eventually they weren't playing shows anymore and it looked like they had parted ways, so I stopped expecting whatever they'd been working on to ever come out. But to my complete surprise, they finally released their first album today and I'm loving it! :swoon:
