I am not sure who needs to hear this, but check out Mogwai's album Atomic. Their work never clicked with me, but Atomic is amazing.

I stopped listening to Mogwai after The Hawk is Howling just because I became obsessed with electronic music and stopped listening to rock all together basically, but I recently heard Rano Pano randomly and I’ve been obsessed with it. I’ve been checking out all of their albums since Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will and I don’t like that album as much or like Rave Tapes either but I’ve liked their soundtracks and some tunes from their main albums. Mogwai is one of the few post rock bands that I used to listen to constantly that I still enjoy a lot, a lot of the other big post rock bands from the same time sound overly maudlin a lot of the time.

I started to watch Adam Curtis’ new miniseries ‘Can’t Get You Outta My Head’ and he uses a lot of Stars of the Lid and Brian McBride songs. Still not sure if SotL is the greatest post rock band of all time, or if they‘re simply not a post rock band.

Either way I forgot how much this song and album rule https://youtu.be/_DsYk-WM5Rk

oh drat the new mogwai is pretty nice, I haven’t really liked any of their new stuff in a while but this sounds like young team combined with the Hawk is howling https://youtu.be/jAX7tKZ-3lg

I made a spotify playlist of my favorite Mogwai tunes, but tbh I kinda stopped listening before Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will, so only Rano Pano from that is on there and nothing from Rave Tapes or Every Country’s Sun and only Pat Stains from the new one. https://open.spotify.com/user/2256l4amjzhdhxyrlvea4dk5i/playlist/3tDSzREgwBgYn6yUnGPI4W?si=sfBQ1SHeQhWPxp4LFMOz5g

Oh and spotify didn’t have one of the best Mogwai songs so this would be on there too https://youtu.be/YYpimokjfYw

It’s wild that I would consider this my favorite genre of music and I have never heard of like 5 of these bands you other dudes are talking about. I thought I was OG because I knew about Slint lmao

Wait have you not heard Talk Talk’s Spirit of Eden or Laughing Stock? Or TNT by Tortoise, or Tarantel’s From Bone to Satellite? Those are all classics and u should definitely get them. And you probably know about Mono and Do Make Say Think, but You Are There seems like it would very much be your poo poo, and like Other Truths, & Yet & Yet and You, You’re a History in Rust by Do Make Say Think are brillliant.

I’ve been listening to The Six Parts Seven, Gregor Samsa, Grails and 1 Mile North, and I haven’t listened to any of this in years, it still rules

These 1 Mile North albums are really incredible, I never really see people mention them either but I guess it’s not like quiet loud post rock, and they’re almost ambient, or they just don’t use drums.
Both this album and Minor Shadows are great https://youtu.be/B7ZP-Vfreeo
