I'm finding it pretty hard to get excited about GYBE in any way. The last three-ish albums had some highlights but really leaned in to the boring ambient drone noise. Not really my thing compared to the earlier albums.

counterpoint, luciferian towers is flawless and doesn't have a single wasted second, probably my favourite piece of music

glacier/cliff I'm more doubtful about, it was the only part of their live set that didn't really work out, hopefully they polish it more for the album

I mainly like GY!BE style post-rock and this is the closest to the real thing this year

Man, I couldn't feel more different. I'm curious how other people in the thread feel. If I were reviewing their albums they'd each get somewhere between a 95 and 100, so the differences between them are all fairly marginal in my opinion. The four main pieces on those two albums in particular are as good as anything else they've done. In fact, I like Luciferian Towers and Gods Pee less than those two albums (again, only marginally).

they've blown my mind plenty of times but after this long time I usually just listen two the first track on both

I'd say they're 25% perfect, while gods pee is 45% and towers is 100%

GY!BE/JESU and drone (SUNN O))) ) rots my soul in the best way possible

Ravena's album is the most gybe/drone thing I've heard in recent years

I'm no music theorist but math rock sounds like more constantly shifting time signatures, poly-rhythms, cleaner guitar sound and good vibes, less like background or movie music

I like stuff like Toe or Covet for productivity and sunny day chilling

until someone corrects me I'll consider "Free Hand" by Gentle Giant the first math rock song
