A few selections from The Slackers shows last week - I took my friend's 15 year old, aspiring tenor saxophonist daughter to see them in Cleveland at the Grog Shop (this is how you get a fourth wave BTW) and then my wife and I spent a long weekend in Chicago for Slackfest.

Grog Shop Cleveland featuring Aggrolites bassist Jeff Roffredo filling in for Marcus.

Slackfest Night 1 featuring guest steel guitarist on Rider and Christine Keilor (I missed his name.)

Slackfest Night 2 with the same steel guitarist on You Must be Good & Dave's Friend. Also overtones on Bin Waitin.

Ah I was standing a little to the right of you on night 1. I saw the Slackers at the Grog Shop back in 2015 I think. I try not to miss them when they come to town.

quote:

The band did not reveal the cause of their sudden breakup. As their Facebook page notes, they were scheduled to perform at the Slam Dunk Festival this coming June, but the split comes just days after it was revealed that a song that promoted Robert F. Kennedy’s anti-vax rally in Washington, D.C. was apparently produced by Bosstones frontman Dicky Barrett — or at least someone with the same name — according to the song’s credits.

"Dicky Barrett being an anti-vaxxer" leading to the Bosstones breaking up wasn't even on my radar.

This might be a weird question, but what the hell. Does anyone remember a band named Dizzybam?

This would have been in the early, early 90's. I remember seeing them all over the San Francisco Bay Area back in the day. They were a mainstay of opening lineups for Ska shows at the time, along with bands like Hepcat, Save Ferris, DHC and Pre-Tragic Kingdom No Doubt.

They billed themselves as "SkaFunkRastaPunk" and had one of the best sounding brass lineups I've ever heard live. Of course, this could just be my memory polishing itself.
I never got any of their recording, if they made any, and life moved me out of the area eventually and I forgot about them.

Just wanted to know if anyone else remembered them.

Don't remember them personally, and googling doesn't turn up any actual music. However, there are some delightfully 90s internet lists of shows at universities in the area that confirms they did exist! http://theory.stanford.edu/~donald/list/4-15-94

The Abruptors have a second album coming out sometime this summer fall or winter on Asian Man. I wasn't aware of them until recently but I'm liking what I'm hearing. Their new single, Best Wishes, Warmest Regards is a banger.
