Gonna add a 4th date, then a 5th, pretty soon it will just be a death sentence for every band on the bill, forced to play a set every day from October 22nd until they shuffle off their mortal coil in front of the baying crowds.

Every day I'm shuffling!

Ask me about Tasmania!
Last week I read the NOFX book, which was a pretty good lighthearted romp through their growing up and introduction to punk (black flag gets many mentions) through the development of their sound (Bad religion era) and the punk rock explosion era (Green Day, Blink 182 era). Lots of drug stories, lots of anecdotes, many laughs, not a lot about the music though. It’s like a watered down version of Motley Crue’s “The Dirt”. Good if you’re a fan of NOFX, not interesting if you don’t care about the personalities.
I did drugs with Fat Mike once, and was pleased to see the incident made it into the book, even if I did not. :(

And just after finishing it, I found out by complete coincidence that Fat Mike has a new podcast. Fat Mike’s Fat Mic. Two episodes in, and it’s pretty crap, but with a few laughs. I wouldn’t bother, unless you’re a big NOFX fan or incredibly bored.

Didn't get anywhere in the "help me identify a song" sticky so I figured I'd try here too since I originally saw this song in this thread years ago

quote:

This one is probably a long shot cause I can’t remember many details, but I’m trying to recall a skramz song that had a music video taking place in an attic (iirc). The band was similar to like old Pianos Become the Teeth or Frameworks. I wanna say I saw the video a long time ago in the Punk/Hardcore/Emo thread, but looking back through my posts, I can’t seem to find it.

"Riala" is for some reason a word that keep popping in my head but definitely isn't it cause that's a Suis La Lune thing. I remember vowels were involved lol

It's a little early to judge the podcast but Mike really needs to stfu while music is playing. He and Melvin whisper during songs in the first episode and he and That Guy From Cobra Kai just flat out continue talking during that one.

It's not really like those bands but, attic-y looking and Rinoa is kind of like Riala?

I listened to that, and my thoughts are it lacks the dynamism and intensity of skramz and sort of just apes the scene. It saved itself a little towards the second half but still feels pretty flat. What do you think about that I think?? Sincere post.

I think I’m the only one who loves How To Clean Everything the most.

Super late to propagandhi chat, I'm just now learning that Chris is doing another occasional podcast/has a patreon/Unscripted Moments/TECA reissue exists but I gotta drop in to say that HTCE is easily my most played Propagandhi LP and not just because it's the oldest, it's also the only album I can still shred every single song in order from just pure muscle memory. It's just silly, brash, and fun. Consider yourself vindicated!

I don't see much point in ranking their albums though, I think of them as more of a cohesive whole, especially since I feel like the evolution of Propagandhi as a band is the spitting image of my own growth wrt political awareness/leftism over it's lifetime. I got into the band in the odd year or two before TETA and that was the album that turned me from a lovely punk kid with liberty spikes and some anarchist zines into a hot blooded leftist, so I have a lot at stake here. This might just be me projecting or a really common trajectory for most teenage-to-the-grave leftists (if I ever defect, kill me) but here it goes:
  • HTCE was a unaccountably snotty and humorous--more in it for the japes than anything else
  • Less Talk More Rock was a lot less sloppy and a lot more serious about the message, but still clumsy
  • TETA was worlds more invested, smarter, and just plain loving angry--also super abrasive and offputting and jock-rock sounding (it's true, ask any indie kid)
  • Potemkin had just as much bite but was a total reversal in method & approach after realizing that sort of poo poo wasn't sustainable with an aging body
  • Everything since has become increasingly more introspective and less laser-focused on politics while learning to smell the flowers.
I'm now roughly about the same age as the band was between Supporting Caste/Failed States so I suspect I'll come to understand them & Victory Lap even better in the coming years but those three albums are identically killer imo and I absolutely couldn't pick a favorite between them.

I think the vocals are definitely less "dynamic" than screamo in that they're kind of at 100 the whole time but I don't think they're aping the scene. There were a few other bands that I found around the same time (all English now that I think about it) doing a similar kind of thing with the post-rock-ish music and the screaming over it and it just really works for me.

At the end of the day it's music, if you don't like it you don't like it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have an extremely specific story that happened to me and i think this is literally the only place i can tell it. I was browsing tiktok and the account Seiwuh comes up. Sometimes i like this guy, sometimes i find him pretentious, overall he has some interesting takes. So in this vid he recommends a band called Overo. He says they kind of sound like Rainer Maria but heavier. That's exactly my poo poo so i check then out and i absolutely love it. I listen to the album maybe three or four times, I'm enraptured. Next day i look for some reviews and i come upon the Sputnikmusic review for the album. In the review they mention the band is made up of members of two bands, Perfect Future and Football Etc. I don't know the first band but I'm an insanely huge Football Etc fan, The Draft is my most listened to album ever on last.fm (because i still scrobble for some reason). I can't even think of a better scenario where you would take a non screaming band that i love and then you add screaming and it works perfectly?? Also they do a cover of a Rainer Maria song so I'm having A TIME.

Ok so i have all that going for me but also in the review of the album the reviewer is morning the loss of a band called Dad Thighs so i pull them in the mix and don't you know it i loving love them too. They're like a post hardcore Carissa's Wierd and that might've been the better scenario i was trying to think of earlier!

Sorry for the ramble but I don't know anyone else who would know what any of this means.
