Last time I saw Pianos, they played a 20-25 minute set to about 20 people, my friends and I got headaches, and Kyle chipped his tooth on a mic.

Absolutely one of my favorite bands to see live.

Dude brings motorcycle into pit during Backtrack's set at Sound & Fury Fest in SB, riot ensues, rest of festival gets canceled. Apparently a bunch of the bands playing the fest played a house show afterward which ALSO got shut down (I think), but there were like 400 people crammed into a suburban backyard.

e: I don't think he actually did donuts or did anything in the pit, just kind of sat on his motorcycle and moshed occasionally. There's a pic floating around where people are moshing, and the man on the motorcycle is clearly moshing, and the people who are moshing are acting completely oblivious to the fact that there is a guy on a motorcycle moshing next to them.

It just amounts to nothing more than a little swank martini bar type room without a stage, you can't really compare them. Manic's been putting shows on there a lot more recently, and are putting on a hosed Up show Sept. 7, and a Defiance, Ohio show a week later. They wanted to do these shows all ages, too, and there really aren't too many all ages options in the New Haven area.

I don't know anything really about punk but over the last couple of months I've heard a couple albums that I've liked and was hoping for some recommendations for similar artists as well as maybe some good/"important" albums representing different times and styles of punk.

My exposure to punk consists almost entirely of Bad Religion(I really liked Suffer, No Control and Against the Grain, but everything I've heard after that has ranged from pretty good to meh) Rise Against(I liked there first two albums a bunch, but I wasn't thrilled with anything after Siren Songs of the Counter Culture) and I've listened to bits and pieces of other bands(Anti Flag, Pennywise, The Descendants) and mostly liked what I've heard.

Thanks

In addition to what has been said:

Propagandhi - Less Talk, More Rock
The Lawrence Arms - Apathy & Exhaustion
Scared Of Chaka - Masonic Youth
The Lillingtons - Death By Television
The Queers - Love Songs For The Retarded
Avail - Dixie
Leatherface - Mush
Lifetime - Hello Bastards / Jersey's Best Dancers
Screeching Weasel - My Brain Hurts / Anthem For A New Tomorrow

I dunno, kinda just go through the back catalogs of labels all the bands mentioned were on (Fat Wreck Chords, Epitaph, Lookout!, No Idea, etc.) and pick and choose, as you will probably find mostly similar bands.

Also - anyone into Hunx and His Punx? Or just garage punk in general? Suggestions?

If you like Hunx, definitely try Shannon & The Clams. Shannon Shaw is the bassist in Hunx and His Punx, and the stuff with the Clams is totally rad.

I've posted a few lists of bands in the recommendation thread, kinda too lazy to dig them up myself and I don't want to come off as pompous. If you're interested in 90s stuff, pick up the book We Never Learn: The Gunk Punk Undergut 1988-2001, written by Eric Davidson of New Bomb Turks. For stuff coming out today, it's probably easier for me to just list labels. In The Red, Goner, Mexican Summer, Infinity Cat, HoZac, Trouble In Mind, Rob's House, Douchemaster, Dirtnap, P.Trash, Hardly Art...

If you already know your poo poo, here's some recent poo poo off the top of my head...

The Shrapnelles put out a killer 7" on HoZac, Useless Eaters (which is just one guy, Seth Sutton) have released an LP and a 7" so far this year, have another LP and more 7"s coming soon, and Seth has a new band on the way called Feral Beat (it's like dude inherited the spirit of Jay Reatard or something), The Hex Dispensers and King Tuff put out a split in April or May that kicks rear end, and Bad Sports have a new LP out on Dirtnap.

Man it's like a bunch of Friendly Fest flyers just blew up in here. One of the dudes who used to book those fests in CT put up a Tumblr with a bunch of flyers from them and other shows he used to book like 6-7 years ago. So many insane shows like Neil Perry/Dropdead/Majority Rule. I think one of these shows was the pg.99 pillow fight mosh that gets talked about a lot w/r/t them. http://thesiningrey.tumblr.com/

New Mean Jeans song. This is great, I've listened to it at least ten times in a row now.
