new BR album is kinda poo poo, it's really boring. I was pretty pumped because I think Won't Somebody is one of the best songs they've ever written, but the version on this album isn't that great. The acoustic version is so much better, an to a lesser extent the live version on 30 Years Live. Resist Stance is also good and I guess a couple of the tracks are ok but god it's so boring. The Devil In Stitches is so awful I cringed the first time I listened to it. It's pretty embarrassing when the tracks written by Greg are way better than the ones Brett wrote, considering part of the reason the band went to poo poo in the late 90's was because he left. I'm also pissed because of how fantastic New Maps of Hell was, I dunno how they could've put out this so soon after. It's like night and day.

Jokes on me I guess, I'm gonna see them Oct 8th at Riotfest in Chicago and then again 6 days later in Toronto so they've still got my money and devotion!

EDIT: also I just got a free download of the album for preordering the vinyl, and it is a "Deluxe" version that includes an extra song and four live tracks, Best For You, Pessimistic Lines, How Much Is Enough? and Generator. Unfortunately, the mp3 of Generator is completely silent :wtf: also why three songs off Suffer that's weird!

I preordered the limited edition orange vinyl of the new album and it came with Greg's first book and his new one. All first print copies of his new book are signed :smug:

No Substance has a couple of really good songs on it, (Hear It, The Biggest Killer In American History, No Substance, and Raise Your Voice! which features Campino from Die Toten Hosen  on the Punk Rock Songs version he sings some of the verses too) but yeah overall it's pretty bland. Although I read some reviews of it online and apparently a lot of people consider In So Many Ways one of BR's best songs and I can't help but laugh at that. And New America. . . well there's a reason they never, ever play any songs live off of those two albums. It's pretty amazing that in the three times I've seen them live (all within the past three years or so) I've heard Stranger Than Fiction, Come Join Us, and Them And Us, songs I wasn't expecting at all. They also played God Song once which they apparently rarely play live so that was pretty cool! It's one of my favorites.

EDIT: Stranger Than Fiction and Gray Race are both good but from Recipe For Hate on the next four albums slowly decline in quality until they saved themselves finally with Process of Belief.

I'm pretty sure it's a fact that How Could Hell Be Any Worse is the best Bad Religion record. They haven't even made anything worth listening to since No Control.

man I'm glad you said this, I've just now realized that all those hours listening to the albums released after No Control was such a waste and I hated every second of it, even though I thought I enjoyed it at the time. Thank you for this wonderful epiphany you've helped me have.

I dunno if any of you saw this, but there is a Bad Religion tribute album ebing made called "Germs of Perfection," and they seem to be releasing one track from it per day. The first was Tegan and Sara (who?) covering Suffer, and it's pretty goddamn hilarious. The second is Polar Bear Club (who?) covering Better of Dead, but it's kind of lame because it sounds almost exactly the same and what's the point of a cover that sounds exactly like the original? Today's is My Poor Friend Me covered by Frank Turner, and it's pretty awesome. Then again I love the acoustic versions of BR songs.

That reminds me, they really need to release a full acoustic album. The acoustic versions of BR songs that are floating around are all pretty awesome, and I love Greg Graffin's solo albums.

speaking of New America, the title track is a bad song with a totally awesome music video. Which is weird because pretty much all of the rest of the videos from their Atlantic era are poo poo. Nothing compares to American Jesus, Struck A Nerve, and Atomic Garden for BR videos, except maybe New Dark Ages which has a cool video.

I wouldn't say it's that bad, it's mostly just really mediocre.

I'm playing Dead Rising 2 right now, and Chuck with thick black rimmed glasses kinda looks like Brett Gurewitz and now I'm chuckling to myself thinking of Brett Gurewitz fighting zombies to save his daughter. Ironically his daughter is part of the reason the new album is kinda poo poo

Oh I forgot about this thread.

I went to Riotfest in Chicago last month, it was pretty cool. It went from Oct 6-10 (wed-sun) but the good bands played thurs-sat, which is when I went. Thursday night I saw Propagandhi for the third time, and Cobra Skulls who were pretty good. After the show, Todd from Propagandhi posted on my facebook wall that he saw me in the front row :smug: it was a great show.

Friday night was Circle Jerks, Bouncing Souls, and Bad Religion. Oh there were some other lovely bands too including the horrible, horrible Lawrence Arms. I'd never seen the Circle Jerks before, I have a couple of their records but it was pretty hilarious to see what they look like now as compared to the 80's. Bad Religion was awesome, they played a fairly short set which was kinda lame, but they had limited time. A dude landed on my head and broke my glasses, that's pretty punk right?

Saturday was like 7 bands and then Anti-Flag, Less Than Jake, Snapcase, Pennywise, and The Mighty Might Bosstones. Snapcase is awesome and it's totally weird because their drummer teaches at my old high school, and their bassist and one guitarist work at the Apple Store nearby me with my friend. Less Than Jake is the only band that I only like live, their recorded stuff is poo poo but they are a ton of fun live. I don't know how that works!

And then a week later I saw Bad Religion again in Toronto, and beforehand Greg Graffin had a book signing. Of course I went. He's a really chill guy and took questions from the audience. I asked him when the hell BR is gonna release an all acoustic album! Anyway here are some pics:

also, Greg Hetson is kind of weird. But we chatted about hockey so it was all good.

well he is a college professor. . . also he's only 45, maybe 46. That's old for a punk rocker, I guess.

EDIT: the fact that he's standing in front of a picture of himself should have given it away haha

I just remembered, during the breakdown parts in Generator, they started playing Rush. The first one was the bridge from Limelight, and the second was Spirit of Radio. I felt like I was the only one who got it though. Also at one point Brian Baker lit up a cigarette on stage and my first thought was, "welp, I guess he's not 15 any more."

Man I haven't been in this thread in a while, I never posted this pic. I am Facebook friends with Todd Kowalski, the bassist in Propagandhi. Just got home from Toronto, seeing the Summer Nationals tour.

The Vandals were loving awesome. They might be old but they are still ridiculous and full of energy. They played I Have an Ape Drape in honor of being in Canada, which was great. Also Live Fast, Diarrhea, My Girlfriend's Dead, The People that are Going to Hell, ANARCHY BURGER, It's a Fact! and a couple other songs. They also ended with Queen's Don't Stop me Now.

Pennywise was ok. They played a lot of old stuff which was pretty good, but eh I've seen them twice before and they basically always play the same poo poo. They spent a LOT of time dicking around between songs and it was kind of annoying.

Bad Religion was really good, as always. They played a really varied set, I was surprised to hear at least five songs I had never heard live before.

They opened with Stranger than Fiction, then played New America (wtf), 21st Century Digital Boy, gently caress You, Struck a Nerve(!!!!!), Skyscraper, Sorrow, True North, Infected, No Direction, You Are the Government, 1000 More Fools, Best For You, Do What You Want, You, then I believe they ended it on American Jesus. That might be out of order. I can't remember if they played any more songs but it was pretty amazing. I had never heard them play New America, Struck a Nerve, You are the Government, 1000 More Fools or Best For you so that was kinda cool. Except for New America because that song is awful and the only thing that redeems it is the awesome music video. I have a video of them playing No Direction that I might post later.

The Offspring aren't that good, Dexter's voice is really weak and they are kinda boring live. They are also SUPREMELY unfunny and needed to shut the gently caress up between songs. I stuck around to hear all of Smash because it's such an amazing album and even their subpar performance was worth watching for the experience. Their performance was something you would expect from a band like Green Day or AC/DC or something; the drummer and third guitarist (some dude they just added?) were up on platforms while Dexter, Noodles and the bassist were on the normal stage. There were a lot of bright flashing lights and specific people were lit up when they were the main focus and it was kind of weird and dumb because it was super flashy but they barely moved around. The other three bands seemed super down to earth in comparison. My thoughts leaving were that The Offspring really doesn't deserve the fame and popularity they garnered considering how poo poo they are live and the fact that Smash was their best album, also Americana isn't that great and everything after it is garbage.

I did get a sweet BR shirt with Reagan and a bunch of AMERICUH poo poo on the front and "I Feel Sorry For the Earth's Population/Because so few live in the U.S.A." on the back which is awesome

Jord is really high in this picture btw. Also I forgot to get a pic with Beaver. Other cool thing was, they signed all of my vinyl copies of their albums.

Biggest surprise of the night, though, was War on Women, one of the openers. They were loving awesome!!!!

I even bought their album, which the singer signed.

It was a pretty awesome night.

When you saw propagandhi did they happen to do any duets with any of the members of RVIVR?

no but they had this singer from Toronto come up and sing Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes. Jen something? I'd have to look it up. She was really cool though I met her before the show.

What's the deal with RVIVR? The dude was in a skirt and I think the girl may have been trans? They were alright, although War on Women and Propagandhi were way better.

EDIT: Jenn Fiorentino is her name. I still don't know who she is lol

Is there anyone more punk on this earth than GG Allin?

Fixed that for you

Also, I went to RIOTFEST in Toronto, and it owned so hard. Billy Talent was a loving blast. Seeing them in their home town, with insanely dedicated fans who knew every loving word to every song was an incredible experience. The best act, though, was Die Antwoord. I know they're not punk or whatever but holy poo poo do they put on an intense live show. Other notable acts were the Cure, who are just a talented group of musicians in their own right; Rise Against, who I don't know very well but were good; Dropkick Murphys and Social D, who are always a pleasure to see live; and Buzzcocks who loving ruled. Steve Diggle is 60 loving years old and he was more energetic than a lot of other musicians half his age.

I have some pics I might post later but for now here is one of my shoes post-Billy Talent. It rained that morning and the ground was a swamp. People lost their shoes in the mud. Beer cans are now permanently a part of that ground. It was awesome.

"What, Is the wage gap not big enough to fit your ego through?"

And a pretty good article from Bitch Media profiling them.

Yeah Comeback Kid's album is pretty great too. Those and Authority Zero's Broadcasting to the Nation were my most anticipated albums of 2017 and none of them disappointed me.

Co loving signed, I especially loved Resist/Comply, Failed Imagineers and Letter to a Young Anus (what a title).

That plus the title track and Tartuffe, which I mostly love because of the theatre analogy. I'm hugely into theatre and always appreciate when my favorite band makes reference to it (see also the title track from Supporting Caste).

I hate to say it, because I really like Todd and he is a super cool guy irl, but the songs on which he sings are my least favorite ones on the album :(

Edit: they aren't bad they're just boring

War on Women announced yesterday that they are releasing a new album in April and I am here to make sure you all listen to them because they rule. War on Women is like a cross between Bikini Kill and Propagandhi. Thrashing riffs with crazy vocals from a singer who goes completely insane on stage. Anyway here's a song from them about how people who are sexually assaulted shouldn't be afraid to speak up about it.

Here's the announcement for the new album

They're coming to buffalo for the first time in 21 years and I'm so excited I could poo poo my goddamn pants, I'm ordering tickets Friday when they drop

I wondee who they're playing with

I will also be at the Buffalo show, excited to see them here for the first time. I saw them at Riot Fest 2016 and they were awesome. Although I thought it was ironic that they played Testosterone off the new record immediately followed by I'm The One

Anyway, to continue my obsession with War on Women, here's an article about the new album with a link for preorders:

https://www.revolvermag.com/music/hear-war-womens-roiling-feminist-anthem-ydtmhtl-featuring-kathleen-hanna

And a song off the new album called YDTMHTL (You Don't Tell Me How To Live) featuring Kathleen Hanna and holy poo poo it owns

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PRykzV0Dtw

The article mentions a "workbook" version of the album but I don't see it on the store page. I guess I'll just order the vinyl bundle

War on Women's new album is streaming on this page:

https://noisey.vice.com/en_us/article/vbxyqb/war-on-women-capture-the-flag-album-stream

It comes out Friday. Spoilers: it's really good. I hope they can get the recognition they deserve, they are making exactly the kind of political protest punk that we need in this hosed up world.

They're playing in Ithaca which is only like two hours from me and it's on a Saturday so the wife and I might go. Bonus if we run into Greg Graffin on the street since he lives there.
