Because I want to talk to someone about Wavves/Cloud Nothings and Spirit Club.

I've been grooving on the new Super Thief album. It's my type of punk, loud and riffy as hell, but the vocals are pretty clear!

https://superthief.bandcamp.com/album/stuck

If it's OK though I'd like to spaz about a local group that I'm just nuts for.

Tongue Party! They popped up in 2015 and are my favorite band in the local scene. I've seen almost every one of their shows only missing like.. 4-5 so far. I've seen at least a few dozen I think?

https://tongueparty.bandcamp.com/

Their first two albums are just perfect to me. Fast, hard as gently caress, and catchy as hell. They're DIY as hell. The second album and the third that they're currently wrapping up were recorded in their practice space with whatever mics they had available. Mastered and engineered themselves too, I think but I could be wrong. It also helps that they provide the lyrics. Songs about not liking the cops, doing drugs, smoking weed, hating your loving day job, doing other kinds of drugs, cellphones. They got it all!

https://tongueparty.bandcamp.com/track/five-buck-huff
https://tongueparty.bandcamp.com/track/da-fuzz
https://tongueparty.bandcamp.com/track/richard-flair

They got me into GRIZZLOR and Empty Vessels, so if you dig either of those groups, you'll probably like them! They're also playing at the PRF BBQ this year, after doing it last year. As my employment situation has changed, I may join them this year.

EDIT: I'd also really appreciate any suggestions in the vein of GRIZZLOR or Tongue Party!

Tongue Party rules hard. My old band would play shows with their previous incarnation, Manic Zamboni, whenever they toured through Illinois. I still play that old CD when I need to chew up some freeway. I don't have anything with quite that mania to it on my mind at this second, but you could try my STL buddies Sunwyrm? Equal parts Black Sabbath and Butthole Surfers, and they're all still like 22 and just coming up in the scene, so hopefully it starts to get really insane down the road.

Any chance you could rip that Manic Zomboni CD and PM a Dropbox link or something? The guys don't have anything from that era anymore, I think.

The Twin Cities are killing it in terms of diversity and inclusion, I think. There are a number of all women groups or at least woman-fronted. I know some bands refuse to play all male line-ups.

One of the newer ones if Fiji 13 and all they rock and have really great wit. Their first EP is free on their bandcamp, fiji13.bandcamp.com , and they just put out the video for one of my favorite songs of theirs.

I have yet to see them live but MURF is one of my favorite bands that popped up this year im the Twin Cities. As far as I can tell, they're making music about Robocop, because their first two singles are about Robocop.

I'd say "I'd buy that for a dollar" is definitely stronger, but gently caress I respect that they're making these songs. Robocop is punk adjacent.

Apparently this local booking agency is giving out free tickets to a Joyce Manor / Wavves show tonight if you RSVP by a certain time, which I did, so that'll be dope! I saw Wavves last year with Best Coast and Cherry Glazerr and they were rad.

I saw Wavves on the first leg of this tour and they brought it. They were at the Triple Rock which was the perfect size and layout to enjoy them. And the new stuff translates really well live. I was really unsure about You’re Welcome at first but it’s up there w Wavvves and Afraidof Heightsfor me. I’m really glad they’re able to be independent and not rely on a label, they clearly benefitted from that change.

My biggest regret was getting into FIDLAR and Wavves a week after they were at the 7th St Entry together. It’s a tiny space and it must have been insanely fun. But I kinda made up for it by seeing FIDLAR there later in the year and getting into the local scene from their openers, Frankie Teardrop and France Camp. Both bands RIP but sadly Frankie disbanded last year, RIP.

I also saw FIDLAR there again twice when they played two shows w METZ. That was insanely fun, I was soooo loving bruised up. Got to chat w Max when he was out for a cig. France Camp opened the first show, and I have a good relationship w those guys. I gave them a bunch of cookies to give to FIDLAR, and the next time FIDLAR was in town in a much larger venue, Zac recognized me and called me out as the dood who gave them cookies. Love FIDLAR and v happy to have their logo tattooed on my knees.

Also, love your name because I just saw The Offspring/311 tour a couple weeks back. The Offspring was the first band that I was into. I discovered Smash in the 5th grade and it was over. The one I was sitting next to met her husband on the 311 cruise. 311 lifestyle indeed.
