Shiner just released their first album in 19 years and it’s really good!

I don’t remember “emo” being a label back in the early-mid 90s. Or “post hardcore”.

But a lot of my favorite bands from that era could be lumped into either category that had shouty vocalists, weird time signatures or quiet/loud shifts

Braid
Slint
Bitch Magnet
Hoover
Rodan

And these guys on the shirt I’m wearing

Finch and Chevelle were emo I guess but listening to them after all these years I just hear Creed :smith:

You think so? Chevelle is like Puddle of Mud level fratboy 2003 poo poo. Yea like Creed. I don't know but I hold some of the old second wave emo bands in somewhat higher regard than that. They are still somewhat serious, or just ironic (I Hate Myself). Then you get to Taking Back Sunday which I guess qualifies but that's more hot topic type 14 year old poo poo, even though I still think it's pretty good.

A lot of those bands are just interchangeable to me. Like all the bands that got major label deals when Nevermind exploded. And then got hosed over and vanished. I’m not saying a band signing to a big label is necessarily a bad thing but the advance and promised future imaginary money can be super destructive to a young band

Chavez is one of my favorite bands and I don’t know if younger people know about them. Back in the mid 90s I’d buy just about anything Matador released. Math rock? Post rock? I don’t see a thread that suits them more than this one

Bummed to have learned that Rick Froberg, singer and guitarist of Drive Like Jehu passed away

Their album Yank Crime is one of my very favorite albums ever. They only released two albums and stopped working together in 1995 or so

But they did do some reunion shows. This is from I’m guessing 2015
