I checked the latest few pages of NMD and the SA mart, and couldn't find anything worthwhile, sooo...

I'm looking for a reliable US based store to pick up a 1349 t-shirt or two. I've checked eBay, but I'm not a huge fan of buying bootleg, and the only merch partners listed on the 1349 site are in England and Norway. I'll pay the $40 to have a shirt or two shipped from there, but don't want to if I don't have to.

Any good links?

Absolutely a must for any fan. :colbert:

Agreed. It's awesome to see Infernus and Gaahl together on stage. Actually, this is one of my favorite lineups of the band in general. Also love the Kvitrafn shots between the toms. So evil.

I just really hope what I've read is right, that Infernus hasn't written much and King and Gaahl have been taking more of that on in the last few years. The whole two band thing is gay enough but to think both might really suck without the other...

It's also kinda depressing to think the Gaahl band might not be able to play the pre-Destroyer songs anymore, but I don't know how that sort of thing works.

If I remember right, I think King and Gaahl have been doing most of the writing for the last two or three albums. You can really tell; I think everything post-Destroyer has moved away from the classical music influenced BM into more of the "Second Wave" sound. Case in point would be the industrial elements of Incipit and guttural overdistortion of Twilight.

I registered an account on the Gorgoroth forums, and the cool thing there seems to be hating on the Gaahl/King incarnation. Honestly, I don't get it. Not only do I think that they've produced some of their best works with Gaahl, I think that he specifically is one of the better vocalists in the genre. I haven't heard any legal discussions that haven't been centered around the Grieghallen fiasco, so I'm not sure what kind of copyrights Infernus will be able to secure either.

In any case, this band is easily in my personal top five BM bands (with any lineup), and I don't mind admitting that I'm a complete Gorgoroth slut. Florist, I'll extend your original invitation regarding the DVD from any fan of the band to any fan of BM in general. Seriously, pick it up.

I'll give you Ravn as an example of the former, but what makes them terrible?

Part of those thoughts come solely from Frost on kit, I mean, the man is a machine. I guess the remainder come from the fact that it's some of the fastest and fiercest BM I've heard. I've never listened to any of the members' parent bands though (to my knowledge*), so I should probably give them a listen before really arguing vehemently.

I hear what you're saying, but I still disagree with part of your statement. I won't claim to say they reinvented the wheel either, hell, I'm new enough to the genre to not make really outlandish claims. I think the only thing that 1349 does poorly in a BM sense is that they are too clean technically. There are slips in the tracks, but not the unintentional drastic tempo changes I hear in other bands. I will say that 1349 was a breath of fresh air for me after getting a lot of lovely death/thrash/speed metal band recommendations. I still can't go a day or so without popping in one of their discs.

That said, Antaeus is currently punching me in the face. It's awesome, thanks for the heads up.

Within the genre of 'Metal,' I do. I love the BM, but I've got about a dozen other death/folk/viking/speed metal albums that get regular play. Old Metallica albums have been a staple of mine since middle school.

Outside of metal, I listen to a lot of 'rock' music - King Crimson, Primus, some Tool, and your run-of-them-mill classic rock groups: Led Zep, Sabbath, Hendrix, Doors, etc. I'm also a fan of jazz/rock stuff like Mahavishnu, John McLaughlin, Miles' later stuff, Jaco, Return to Forever, and the like.

I agree with Morbid Florist. I like both factions of the group, but iirc, King did most if not all of the writing on the last couple of albums. Old Gorgoroth is a classic BM band, thanks to Infernus' writing, and it'll be interesting to hear what he puts out in the next couple of years. For his sake and his die-hard fans, I hope it's a return to the Antichrist/Pentagram days.

So I was at the bar the other night, and my buddy Miras gave me a flash stick with about 8 gigs of music on it. Here is a complete list of everything:

1349 Discography
Autopsy Severed Survival, Torn From the Grave
Bathory Discography
Blackened, Vols 1 5
Blackmetallilitto Various
Breath of Sorrows Through Darkness to Battle I Ride
Children of Bodom Bodom Covers
Dark Funeral Discography
Darkmoon Warrior - In Fundis Inferiorum
Darkthrone Discography
Enslaved Vertebrae
Gospel of the Horns Realm of the Damned
Immortal Pure Holocaust
Khors The Flame of Eternitys Decline
Marduk Dark Endless, Those of the Unlight, Opus Nocturne
Samael Blood Ritual, Cermony of Opposites and Rebellion
Satyricon Now, Diabolical
Tartaros The Grand Psychotic Castle, The Red Jewel

Most of the stuff Ive listened to and enjoyed, the exception being Samael.

I threw the 1349, Marduk, Dark Funeral, Darkmoon Warrior, Darkthrone, Marduk, and Satyricon on my iPod. Whats the consensus on Autopsy, the Blackened and Blackmetallilitto comps, Gospel of the Horns, Khors, and Tartaros?

Cool, thanks for the feedback! I'm really digging the Marduk and Darkmoon Warrior stuff. Samael I found to be kind of boring, I don't know.

This biggest problem I'm having is that these were apparently mostly acquired via :filez:. A few of the albums are only partials, with the missing tracks labeled as "BC!." I'm not one to torrent, so I'm stuck with some incomplete albums. I'm not too worried, I'm treating the missing albums as warm-ups to see what I'll purchase.

I think I'm going to pull the Samael from my iPod and replace it with GotH, as that is the one band I'm not really familiar with and have a full album.

Good looking out guys!
