I really liked Blut Aus Nord and Ash Borer, but those were pretty much the only ones I listened to. Looks like I have some catching up to do.

E: Just listened to that Wodensthrone album and holy poo poo is it good.

Not really feeling that Summoning album. Some of the horns sound like straight up MIDIs. I haven't really listened to Summoning before, so if that's part of their schtick then whatever.

How do you guys feel about one man band percussion only botany themed black metal with hammered dulcimers?

Some of Botanist's early stuff sounds a little too much like a weird goblin chucking percussion instruments down some stairs, but I'm really into the Mandragora album. Who knew plants could be so metal?

drat but this Ruins of Beverast album is evil. Very positive first listen. Worth it exploring the rest of his discography?

Yeah I've fallen for Beverast. Makes me wonder why I hadn't heard of him before. God's Ensanguined Bestiaries is seriously one of the most amazing black metal tracks I've ever listened to. Kind of nice to hear less shrieked vocals, although I don't hate that style. Just kinda like the lower pitched vocals now and again. But yeah it's seriously loving me up that I hadn't heard of him before.

Wow, thanks whoever mentioned Entropia, that album is aces. I've had Gauss on repeat the past few days. Since it's getting towards the end of the year I've started thinking about what's come out so far. Fanisk and Ruins of Beverast are way up there for me. Deafheaven and now Entropia are probably gonna be there too. Oh yeah and Aosoth. The new Arckanum and Watain albums didn't really do much for me. Anything I missed that's really been making waves?

Listening to this now. Liking it so far. Lots of cool astronomical lines/song names. Can't say I've seen many black metal bands flock to those themes.

It's probably sacrilege to say but I would pay good money for a cleaner produced version of Beverast's Rain Upon the Impure. It's a great album but I hate hearing it from the bottom of a well.

Oi Magoi is a great album for a more psychedelic twist. Other than the big releases from Behemoth and Teitanblood, I've really liked the new records from Kampfar, Kriegsmaschine, Waldgefluster, Woods of Desolation, and Murmur.

If you wanna try something a little weirder, check out Ghost Bath.

This is kind of cool. New female-led black metal solo project called Myrkur. Haven't heard of many women in black metal, so this is neat. Not the best, but pretty solid. One to watch for.

drat, this new Botanist track is something special. Really excited for their new LP. Their earlier records were a little too raw for me, but last year's release was excellent and this year's is shaping up to be really nice too. There should be more hammered dulcimer in black metal.

Taake/Hoest does a weird thing, most noticeable on Nattestid where he completely ducks the sound of the crash cymbal sometimes, mid crash. It's very distracting to me for some reason.

Can anyone recommend something that strikes a middleground between Darkspace and stuff like Mesarthim and Violet Cold? I love the raw and oppressive sound of Darkspace but I also like the more uplifting chord progressions the latter bands bring to the table. Spectral Lore is probably the closest band I think has this kind of sound.
