Alcest's new album Kodama is pretty rad. I like most of the tracks but Oiseaux de Proie and Onyx are standouts. Neige has some more growls than in their last album pretty good stuff because his vocals are amazing.

A band's best album is the first one I heard, they started getting worse moving forwards and/or backwards from there.

Are there any decent metal review sites left? I don't want to just blindly listen to everything recommended but I do want some kind of filter to at least cut down on the amount of new content. I used to read Teufel's Tomb of all things and while I didn't agree with a lot of the staff, Teufel himself seemed to have similar tastes to my own and was a decent source of new material for a few years. He talked up the first Gore Bash EP and it's still a fun listen.

Or is that basically what everyone uses these <genre> threads for now?

metal-archive is actually decent because there are normally many reviews for said album. Most of them are surprisingly well written you got to read more than 1 review though because sometimes its obvious its written with pure bias.

This ep is the poo poo. Post metal and no vocals but its still very much black metal imo. Great listen, try it out if you haven't already its a one man band from Athens.

This ep is almost 50minutes so it is basically a full length album.

From a few interviews I read it seems Agalloch had lots of issues behind the scenes which probably affected their last album's quality. I hope the new bands that came out of their members are good.

Ultar, a Russian post black metal band, were formally known as Deafknife.

The vocals are a bit in the background which sounds weird but still really great song.

Panphage is top tier poo poo. His entire catalog is essential.

its amazing how many great one man bands there are in black metal. New panphage is dope. Its a bit atmospheric but pure black metal at the same while.

Anyone listened to Peste Noire's last album? Not a fan of Famine's politics but I really liked their two albums before the latest one. Especially the La Chaise Dybale felt like some dark hillbilly french rock and it even had old war/marching songs adapted to black metal. Don't see any reviews for it but metal archive user review are very negative on it.
