I'd take Immortal's later releases as being heavily tongue-in-cheek, ESPECIALLY 'Sons Of Northern Darkness'. I really think that their intention is not to be overtly serious with the lyrics and the subject matter and just rip out some good music and to have some fun.

Yeah, any song with the lyrics "these mountains which I heart" can't be anything other than silly. But that is an incredible album.

I'm an absolute sucker for symphonic black metal, and I haven't found a new fix in ages. So I need your help.

What I'm listening to now that relates to that genre:

Anorexia Nervosa
Dimmu Borgir (an old highscool sweetheart I'm still in love with)
Arcturus
Equilibrium (really digging Sagas)
Nokturnal Mortum

Any recommendations appreciated.

Vesania (Polish, similar to Anorexia Nervosa)
Vulture Industries (extremely similar to Arcturus)
Dreamscapes of the Perverse
Keep of Kalessin (Armada in particular), not really symphonic but I think they'd work for ya

Gris, Trist, and ColdWorld are top-notch depressive/suicidal black metal, and I will echo the other suggestions. But seriously, Gris's 2007 album Il était une forêt... is one of my favorite depressive black metal albums.

Of all the bands, Nyktalgia definitely has the best vocals, though.

I'm still kicking myself for not going to MDF this year...what an incredible lineup it was. Gorguts, Watain, Nirvana 2002, The Chasm, Portal, Nazxul, Krallice, and a bunch of other great bands all in one place. Damnit. I saw Watain a couple years ago and it was one of the great memorable shows of my life, so seeing them again would have been a treat. Oh well.

I like how it's 10% alcohol rather than the average 6% - to make it more metal, I guess.

Unfortunately it looks like you can only get it locally in Austin.

"The average" for an imperial stout is about 9%, not 6, so 10% is hardly unusual. Regardless, that would be pretty awesome to drink at an Immortal show.

I'm sure you guys discussed it some time ago, guess I missed it. Anything better then that come out in 2011 ? Found it to be a weak year, Evilfeast - Wintermoon Enchantment was good but it wasn't anything progressive or different for him.

There's no shortage of excellent metal that came out last year, but since this is the black metal thread, I'll refrain from posting other subgenres and just recommend that you give Insane Vesper's Abomination of Death album a listen. Skogen's Svitjod album is pretty solid too, but it might not be what you're looking for (it's more in the vein of Drudkh and Fen than it is Taake). To be honest, I'm in the same situation in that I haven't listened to anything from 2011 more than Noregs Vaapen, but there's plenty of great stuff.

Kvist - For Kunsten Maa Vi Evig Vike (received nowhere near enough exposure back in the day)

For the guy looking for more melodic depressive black metal, definitely check out Sombres Forêts and Miserere Luminis (which is a collaboration between two members from Gris + one from Sombres Forêts), pretty much the only good bands I can think of that ElectricWizard didn't list.
