Beethoven and Wagner ARE already blacker than most. My issue is that I haven't heard any songs that STAY grim and black. They all end up going through happier parts before coming back. I could very well be wrong, I don't have much of either to listen to. I'd like to be wrong on that front.

That Paganini song is pretty intense. It starts off like a loving Dragonforce lead :)

Some more modern composers have some pretty grim material.

Take Arvo Part for instance:

In case anyone missed it this year, check out the new Old Wainds album. Good black metal by one of the few Russian bands who probably aren't Nazis.

Anyone listened to Peste Noire's last album? Not a fan of Famine's politics but I really liked their two albums before the latest one. Especially the La Chaise Dybale felt like some dark hillbilly french rock and it even had old war/marching songs adapted to black metal. Don't see any reviews for it but metal archive user review are very negative on it.

I never listened to much of their newer work after their first album because I felt only that and demos and first album were worthwhile imo

I listened to Im Wald the other day and it's extremely good. Anyone that likes black metal at all should be giving it a spin
