I saw a metal-bodied ukulele when I was in Seattle that I really wanted, but it cost more than buying a full-sized metal-bodied guitar.

I decided to check in on this thread to see why it was so popular and realized I was the first to respond... 4 and a half years ago.

I usually play guitar. However about a year ago I was without a guitar, so I traded my bike for a ukulele. Never regretted it. It's an Ohana, probably the cheapest model they make. Playing "gently caress You" on it has been a big hit at the local open mic.

Good point on converting non-musicians. The ukulele is probably one of the best, if not THE best, instrument to start with. It's really changed my life for the better and now I'm starting to learn guitar.
I'm definitely teaching any kids I have to play ukulele. Cheaper than getting a piano.
