VW with a Porche engine! Well, technically yeah, but probably not really a 914 engine, probably just a stocker 1600cc Type 4 engine that they started throwing in them in 1972. Honestly kind of curious what he'd take for it, but probably thinks it's worth 5k+, which it's not.

I particularly like the "parked for 10 years or so but was running when parked". I'm sure that just letting a vehicle sit in your yard for a decade has no effect on its roadworthiness...

The chances of him getting that price are high enough to be worth trying, particularly if he has the ability to let it keep sitting.

I genuinely can't remember the last time I saw one of those in the wild. They were actually kind of common back in the day, but I think they were only good for about 100K KMs max until they died utterly and completely.

Some of the major reasons for doing a wrap job is elaborate or impossible to paint designs can be easily printed, and it protects the original paint underneath. If you do anything but a basic glossy color, vinyl is way cheaper than paint, and doesn't gently caress the resale value, it actually makes it hold it better.

The '80s were so weird. People listening to Wham! and blondie and poo poo, voting for Reagan, and Chernobyl, and its the only decade in the history of the horseless carriage where there was a departure from round and curvy to straight, chiseled and blocky (at least that I can think of). It wasn't always for the worst.

edit: and look at that rear bumper! They just don't make 'em with the "giant, faded, barely vulcanized rubber" look anymore.

I guess I could ask what the point is of spending all that money and putting all that poo poo on your car then only driving it 3500 miles a year but I guess it's obvious that they don't do it for the driving or anything else approaching logic really.

I ran it through kbb for shits and giggles and according to them the 100k less miles than what you would expect is worth like four thousand dollars.

I see early offset Fuchs (probably 7's and 8's) and reasonably straight body panels. Which means if you pay less than $1k, you can get out of it with ease selling the fuchs (to 911 guys) and a few body panels, then pick up another $300 off the the junk yard if you don't feel like continuing to part it out.

Go for it.
