How exactly can you register a car like that? Shouldn't it be illegal for a few more years?

VideoTapir posted:

Unless you Show or Display it (I'm going to guess that car would have a shot if there were fewer than 500 of them), yes, it would be illegal.

Amazingly, the Ford Cosworth RS is for sale in America-street-legal in all 50 states. Imported and federalized by Sun International Racing in Manhattan Beach, California

Presumably it's one of the cars they imported, given that's it's LHD.

Rolling 25 until 1992 then they were like "gently caress that" or something, I guess, because it stopped at 1967.

Same deal with California. It used to be rolling 25 but we stopped in 2000, so 1975 is the cutoff.

It's literally a first generation Nissan Micra. So dirt cheap but you'll need to import parts.

e; sorry I cannot figure out why the pics aren't posting

Vintage chryslers are cool.

And that specific emblem he used is vintage chrysler, and cool.

If you would've waited just like a month and a half you could've hit the one year mark. Shame...

1975. I honestly didn't know they made kei cars that far back, but it looks like they did! Neat.

Kei cars have been a tax classification since 1949 :eng101:

There were even a few officially imported into the US in the 60s by Malcolm Bricklen (who later went on to make the Bricklin SV-1 and import... Yugos), the Subaru 360 and the Subaru Sambar (in van and truck form). Unfortunately, at the time they were made, the kei specification only actually allowed for engines no larger than 360cc, so you're not getting anywhere in a hurry.

I think a forums member was working on a Sambar belonging to a friend of his? That thread might've fallen into the archives at this point though.

That was actually a low point at ford and we found out later they actually were cheating the roof crush test a couple years after this. Assuming it was mostly the same people in charge its hard not to wonder if they knew and didnt care.

At the same time porsches still had a fuel tank sitting above your legs this whole time and ive never heard of them catching poo poo for it. I mean honestly theres not a whole lot of good places to put one. Kinda nature of the beast thing.

That's generally how it goes with most American cars. Easier to sue a domestic manufacturer than a foreign one probably.

The Corvair got poo poo for having swing arms in the rear but that's the same setup the Beetle and the 356 used.

For something that could make a fun sports sedan, I see them go super cheap like all the time.
