Went looking to see how much old Countach's are running for (purely out of curiosity) and found this: http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/clt/3536592493.html Also, $19,000 for a diecast collection? I don't know much about how much something like this would cost, but this seems to me to be drastically over priced: http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/clt/3533313833.html

The Solstice GXP was the only trim they made hardtops in if I remember right, I have no idea why you would want to put a ragtop on it when a hardtop is a whole lot safer. Those things are wicked fast though; we had one with the GMPP stage kit making 290hp for the weekend, and since the hardtop weighed something like 2700lbs it was stupid quick and lots of fun. If I was going to get a fun 2 seater though I'd rather drop the $30,000 on a C6 Z06

According to this it's a pretty reliable car, and I know that the LNF and the 2.4L (LTE I think it's called?) motor that's in it is, overall, very reliable and a great engine. The link is obviously extremely biased, but Edmunds seems to like it too so .

Plus it's simple, and simple to maintain / repair, cheap and parts are available. That's one up on the Fairlane in every aspect. Plus it can go offroad a lot better than the Fairlane, has quarter windows / vents / glasses (depends on where you come from) and provision to use a crank. I kind of want to replace the Fairlane with a Discovery anyway as I mentioned somewhere previously. The only way is up really. Ah, in that case this makes sense. I must be thinking of a different Soviet-era model that was absolute garbage. May have been the ZiL

General_Failure posted:Sorry TT, but I agree with this. Sure my evidence is anecdotal but every time I've approached someone about something becoming one with the earth on their property they either aren't interested or want an utterly breathtaking amount of $. Yeah, I've had this experience too. Every summer, me and my friends go on a week long roadtrip across Michigan's rural communities, hitting up the garage sales, thrift stores, antique and flea markets, and farms with that look like they might have some good stuff. Last summer, I found the Nikon F3/35mm-105mm Micro-Nikkor lens that I posted about in the Misc. thread for $5; it's worth $600. We drove by a house that had a barn that had some vintage signs on it from car, petrol, and soda companies. Talked to the owners for a little bit about if they'd want to sell them to us and they were super nice. Ended up buying six or seven of em from them for $75 or $100 total and sold them on eBay for that much a piece. A bunch of the houses we stopped at for either the garage sale or to offer them money for something like antique farm equipment had beautiful (and rusted) 40's, 50's, and 60's pickup trucks in or around the barn, and a few of them had old Chevy Bel Air's and such. Sometimes they want outrageous amounts of money for the cars, sometimes they want very little to nothing (because it's rusted in place), but usually it's a 75 year old man's pet project that he'll "finish some day." I never tried doing this in Australia, so I have no idea. I definitely would NOT try this south of Kentucky or Tennessee or in the plains of the US, but I'd definitely suggest trying it if you're in the Northeast/Northwest/Great Lakes states.

I know a guy with a fully legal V-Spec Nismo 2001 R34 and he paid $120,000 for it (through motorex) and he has no problems DDing it. He said something about how a few of the first R34s through motorex were grandfathered in as long as they could prove that the required modifications had been performed and he had all the paperwork saying that it was. Someone else local to here imported a 1989 R32 from Canada with no issue, but he knew his poo poo and had all the correct paperwork filled out and ready to go. Border didn't give him any beef and neither did the state when he registered it. Picture of said car: I had seen a GTR or two in UFs thread and assumed that it must have an '89, so I went rooting around on CL and found a '91 and I just couldn't believe it (RIP, probably) FAT32 SHAMER fucked around with this message at 05:53 on Mar 3, 2015 |

Based on what I understand, they make a huge amount of power and are very reliable compared to other cars with 600hp, they're relatively easy to work on, theyre awd, they don't look like any other car that's available in the US, and some people would really like that RHD thing to be unique or stand out or whatever. I would own one given the chance, but I have a feeling that an R34 will be crazy expensive by the time they're legal to import, and the ones that are affordable will be garbage bins. Australia/NZ pick over Japan for old used cars and leaves Canada and the rest of the world the scraps, then the US can pick over those scraps ten years later after sitting in either Japan or the frozen wastes of Canada during that time.

I would still probably take a JDM Fozzy STI over a GTR because at least the FSTI isn't outright banned and the insurance would probably be a lot cheaper
