It says it's a DS wagon athough I'm pretty sure only the ID was offered as a Break (wagon). The ID being the dumbed-down version of the DS, it had no hydropneumatic suspension, no fancy hydropneumatic manual gearbox either. This may be a good thing for a guy used to working on and driving tractors disguised as trucks.

Oh god. I want one of these. A friend of mine had one when I lived in France; DS' are awesome; the wagon is just even more so. He now lives in Alabama, and may still have it. I nearly have the cash, but would not dare buy one sight unseen. Too many of the parts cost unicorn balls.

They way that one is sitting, I guarantee it has the air suspension & is a bona-fide wagon. They were popular as ambulances.

(edit) it's not running..,.so the airbag system could be shot. Still tempting, if I had another 8K to fix it properly.

Wasn;t the '82 Skylark built on the Nova platform? I seem to recall most of them had frame alignment issues...When I'd follow one, it was always crabbing sideways down the road. Even new ones. Noticed it with the Buick Apollo and Pontiac Whateveritwas as well.

---

I had an '86 Escort.

"L".

I felt very special.

I could tote whole sheets of drywall with it, though.

As tempting as that T-Bird is, I'm saving up for a rebuild on my 389 in a couple of months (project thread hilarity ahoy). Also got a kid starting college in a year, so... :(

Yeah; there were a fair number of them when new. Converting a gas-designed motor to diesel isn't as easy as the GM marketeers assumed it would be.

The only one of those I've seen around these parts (South Jersey/Philadelphia) was a little old lady car with less than 20K on it.

I was just wondering if this was some kind of e-mail address harvesting scheme. "first $1800 drives it away," yet "price is negotiable?" Plus you're $8K into a fairly rare car, and you'll take $1800? with a running motor & driveable driveline?

Then again, if you can't spell "rotisserie," maybe you're doing it wrong.

It's frustrating. This is the third time I've found something really tempting - and the sellers never respond.

This one's been up for quite awhile. I was really interested in it as a resto for my wife, but she passed on it. I'm too large for it...I bet it could be had for well uder $2K by now.

I've talked to the sister of the owner...it's an estate sale...he bought it from a guy in New Mexico to restore, and died suddenly, The body has very little rust and is complete, Motor is all there but isn't set up to run (judging by the loose drive belt). These cars are very cool and extremely rare, especially on the East Coast.

Looks like a fairly easy resto. I'm still tempted...

Yes, it was...it was supposed to be one of those transition - planes for that magical time after WWII when we were all supposed to have at least one aircraft in the garage.

Before the FAA realized that it's a lot less dangerous to the general public to be a mechanically-disinclined uncoordinated moron in two dimensions than in three.

I remember when Grand Nationals were new, and clowns were buying them and setting 'em on blocks in their heated garages as an investment. Within two years I began seeing ads for them in Tradin' Times. As noted earlier in the thread, they would've been better off investing in the market or precious metals.
