kimbo305 posted:I just assumed the 'hazard' of that ad was that the car wasn't a runner, which was never stated or implied by the ad. What's funny is that the picture you provided of a LHD model is actually a RHD that's been mirrored. If you crop and create wallpaper on your link, you can see the numbers on the speedo are backwards. Also, using your second link you can just barely make out a gas pedal in the very corner. Also the speedo and tach needles are in the appropriate place (lower left so as to turn clockwise). Edit: The pics in the original CL ad are authentic, sorry. djdanno13 fucked around with this message at 23:03 on Mar 12, 2011 |

Unless there is actually a chev 383 and its just a 350 (+ .060) plus the crank from a 383. You're right on the first account. There is no factory chevy 383. Most people call it a 383 however because that's easily recognized as a 350 block w/ a 400 crank. If you called it a 387 people might get a little confused.

http://northplatte.craigslist.org/cto/2431210045.html Had to post this, snotty kid gets a free truck and doesn't want it and succumbs to the old "it's an old car, it's a classic, it's worth $$$$$" I must say, that is probably the cleanest 79 dodge truck I've ever seen.

Flipping christ, has anyone else tried to sell a car on CL lately? I can't even count how many people have offered to buy it but are sending somebody to get it because they're too busy but they'll have a check in the mail shortly. At least one guy was different, he wanted to paypal me the money, but I figured it was just the same old scam-o, probably by using a stolen paypal account or simply disputing the charges after stealing the goods.

Tai-Pan posted:Considering there was a waiting list and people were paying over MSRP then, ya, I am pretty sure he paid at least MSRP. Probably more. Volume discounts only apply when there is more supply than demand. Not to mention taxes on all those vehicles plus storage in what looks like a heated garage and the lifts themselves. Even if he bought them at MSRP it's still less than a 10% gross over 7 years which is also hilariously bad for over a million dollars in cars. He probably lost more money in inflation than he's earned. But then, cars should not be investments, especially new cars. The same thing happened in the late 80's as well which is why I think it was last year there was a guy selling an 88 Trans Am in the plastic or maybe it was a turbo Vette or something.

Armyman25 posted:If Nebraska is like Iowa you just have to put a bond up for the car. If no one claims it within a certain amount of time, a new title will be issued to you. It's slightly more complicated than that. Nebraska is a bit of dicks, but basically you can have a mechanic place a bond on the car, and then sell it to you. If you place a bond on a car yourself (like an abandoned vehicle) you can't actually keep the car, at least, that's what I've gathered from NE title laws. Or track down the last person the vehicle was last registered to and hope they have it sitting in a box somewhere. I've done it both ways.

This isn't a craigslist post, but figured this was the best place to get this kind of opinion. Found this Toyota (Corolla? I don't even know what year) sitting to the side at the local salvage yard. It's all there, but it's been sitting for years. Scrap man says I can have it for $375 with title. I had an '85 Opel Ascona which was a J body that I was surprisingly quite pleased with. But it had a 5 speed and I think put together much better than any J body in the states. Also my buddy had a '91 Mark VII Bill Blass edition was a pretty awesome car back in 2000 when it was only a 9 year old car. He sold it to his brother and... it hasn't aged very well since.

Just thought I would share some real gold. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ef32KRySsc0 You may want to mute the video before you hear the woman start talking however. tl:dw, dealership in Nebraska finally selling out all the cars they held onto. Including several late 50's to mid sixties chevy's with single digit mileage. loving incredible.

Really it makes more sense to go to a county surplus auction or estate auction. surplus generally receive fleet maintenance and estate vehicles are typically low miles due to the age disability of the previous owners. Plus the auction won't put up the cars on the block for hours allowing you to look them over and maybe car fax on your phone. You just have to be patient and have money on hand. My two best vehicles I bought at auctions, 03 silverado for 3k and an 85 Olds delta 88 for $250 and they are both still on the road.
