IUG posted:I picked up “1” at a thrift store recently. How is that for covering The Beatles? I noticed there were no tracks from the white album while I was ripping it, so it seems like a lot of essential songs were missing. I'd say it's not a bad starting point; 1 is a collection of all the Beatles' singles that hit #1 on the pop charts. I'd still opinion moving on to 1962-1966 (the Red Album) and 1967-1970 (the Blue Album) from there to explore further, especially with the extended versions available now.

There is nothing wrong with this advice at all. Because I'm an old, old man, I grew up with vinyl copies of Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, The White Album, and Abbey Road. I usually prefer a band's earlier stuff, but if someone told me those were the only Beatles albums I could listen to, I would be OK.

New page, after three requests at the end of the last page. I'll start with a signal boost: Schiavona posted:If Bad Bunny’s “Baile Inolvidable” has been on repeat in my house lately, what else should I dive into? and my own questions: ExecuDork posted:Disturbed? And another one, the pillows?

ExecuDork posted:Disturbed? I was hoping an actual fan would come along, but I'm reasonably familiar with their work, so I can give a perspective. IMO DIsturbed is a band that manages to put a few good songs on every album, but I've never heard an album that I thought was good all the way through*. I think Indestructible is the best one I've heard, but even that drags on a little towards the end. I guess I'd say start with that one, and go through their singles as well to see if there's anything else that really grabs your attention. *To be fair, I haven't listened to their last few albums because no one seems to have anything really nice to say about them. Maybe they're actually classics that I'm missing out on, but I'll take my chances.

Disturbed just start at the first one. Off you somehow like it, get up to 10,000 Fists. I listened to them since they started, but stopped on the album after that, Indestructible. You can skip that one.

Please Mr Lostman is a great album as well that came before those. Fool on the Planet is a greatest hits record that mostly comprised of songs from those records.

cumpantry posted:oh god its 2 discs imo Beatles had three phases Please Please me -> Help! Rubber Soul -> Magical Mystery Tour White Album onwards... Sounds like you would probably enjoy rolling through the 4 albums that make up that middle era. Personally I think it's their best stuff

Anyone wanna break the tie? Indestructible - yes or no?

So I listened to them at their peak when I was their target audience (in my late teens when the first album came out). The first album (The Sickness, 2000) was a breakthrough when it came out. It has Stupidify, Down With The Sickness, and The Shout cover. The second album (Believe, 2002) was them trying to evolve. It’s broadly about embracing all people’s religions (and keep in mind that David, the lead singer, has been a price of poo poo about that lately). It has Prayer as the big single. Remember was another good single. The third album (Ten Thousand Fists, 2005) is what I consider their best. The guitar solo on Stricken is like my third favorite guitar solo in my whole (18,000+ song) music collection. It’s got other great singles, like the title track, and a cover of Land Of Confusion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I77mjesUbkw The guitar solo in question starts at 2:18. The fourth album (Indestructible, 2008) did not hold up for me. I was getting sick of nu-metal at this point. I bought the CD when it came out, and still listen to it since then. But looking at the track list, I can’t really see any song titles that jump out at me as great tracks, and it’s over 15 years old. I downloaded their next album (Asylum, 2010) and ended up deleting that album. There, way more words about a nu-metal band then there needed to be.

i didn't like raining on people's parades, and i certainly listen to a lot of big stupid rock, but jesus christ can i not deal with disturbed covering anything it's the worst

Land of Confusion is fiiiiiine. I’m not going to recommend Disturbed to anyone. Or anything from that genre of music from that period of time. But if someone is asking, then I’ll serve as a cautionary tale.

Land of Confusion works, Sound of Silence isn't the worst version I've heard, and Shout's kinda goofy. But Disturbed's cover of I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For is the worst thing they ever recorded and maybe the worst cover I can remember hearing.
