Can anyone recommend any good M.A.N.D.Y. tracks or mixes? House / Minimal people seem to absolutely be in love with them, but I don't really know too much about them. Im coming from the Trance side of the Dance scene, but I like plenty of House / Electro DJs like Justice and Boys Noize.

M.A.N.D.Y. are better DJs than producers, which owes to some of their popularity, so you might be better off downloading a random live set of them somewhere (or their released mix At The Controls). Anyway they're probably the weakest major producer on Get Physical in my opinion, most of their albums are mediocre, but here's a few i like:

Rockers Hi-Fi - Push Push (M.A.N.D.Y. 's Pusher Remix)
M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade - Body Language
M.A.N.D.Y. - Put Put (John Tejada remix)
Tiefschwarz - Damage (M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade remix)
M.A.N.D.Y. & The Sunsetpeople - Sunsetpeople
Lindstrom - I Feel Space (M.A.N.D.Y. remix)

Theyre basically a not-as-good version of Tiefschwarz, imo. Lopazz, Booka Shade, Chelonis R. Jones, Jona, Samim, Junior Boys, Noze, etc are more worth paying attention to on Get Physical

Hello goons.
I've been trying to figure out where I should start with Gogol Bordello and Frank Zappa.
Thanks.

Gogol Bordello: pretty much any of them but I like Super Taranta a lot
Frank Zappa: ' (Apostrophe) is good because it's kind of in the middle of his funny pop stuff and his weird experimental stuff but if you're looking for primarily the former get Sheik Yerbouti, and for the latter get Burnt Weenie Sandwich & Weasels Ripped My Flesh

Where do I start with Muse? Generally I've hated everything I've heard by them, but I know Matt Bellamy has a really sweet guitar rig and would like to hear how he uses it to it's fullest advantage without being put-off by a bunch of whiny pretentious lyrics and soft rock/indie crapola.

I like what I see in this video for an intro to Stockholm Syndrome so direct me to similar things please.

Absolution is the one with Stockholm Syndrome and it's probably my favorite, for some of the reasons you listed. But every album of theirs is a mix of good and crappy songs, none stands out as being particularly good or bad. Their recent live album 'H.A.A.R.P.' contains pretty much all of my favorite songs by them from a wider range of their albums, though his voice is shakier and stuff it's maybe a better overall selection, he also wails a lot more live than he does on his studio albums which is maybe what you're looking for. The beginning of that video is about as hard and distorted as Muse ever gets though.

Where should I start with Thievery Corporation?

Out of their studio albums, get The Mirror Conspiracy (The Richest Man in Babylon would also be a good introduction). But don't miss out on their DJ mixes either, which are arguably better than their releases - Outernational Sound is probably my favorite.

where should i start with Jamiroquai?

Travelling Without Moving probably has the most good songs overall but Synkronized was their most popular and has Canned Heat on it so both are probably a good choice. every studio album they put out is seriously hit and miss though, and actually I just found out that they did release a Greatest Hits album called High Times so get that instead if you just want a bunch of their good songs

How about David Byrne? I know he's done a whole lot with a lot of different people, but I haven't heard much of it. Where should I start with him?

I'm assuming you don't need an intro to Talking Heads, but as far as his solo stuff goes, except for some of his movie sountracks they're all consistently good and pretty accessible so you could pretty much start with any of them. Some of his albums have a specific 'theme' to them (Rei Momo, his self titled and Sounds From True Stories are more Latin, The Knee Plays is kind of like experimental bluesy dixieland jazz, Feelings has kind of a 40s-50s movie soundtrack feel but also sort of new wavey, Look Into The Eyeball is funky almost discoish, Grown Backwards is kind of operatic, Uh-Oh is new wavey and the closest to Stop Making Sense era heads stuff) but all of them range a lot. I guess if I had to pick a favorite it would be Look Into The Eyeball. His soundtracks are more hit and miss but The Catherine Wheel is probably the best and is kind of funky but with an experimental bent. If you're interested in his collabs with Brian Eno, Everything That Happens Will Happen Today is a better starting point than My Life In The Bush of Ghosts imo.

tbh acid mothers temple is one of those bands with a huge output where if you've heard one album you've heard them all, unless youre one of those guys who has every live Grateful Dead bootleg and actually do legitimately like listening to hours upon hours crazy psych-improvisation, just get AMT & The Melting Paraiso UFO - Univers Zen ou de Zéro ŕ Zéro

This is obviously a loaded question but, where do I start with jazz? I just got back from a vacation in New Orleans. While I was there, I shuffled into a little hole-in-the-wall jazz club and spent a couple hours listening to a 4-piece jazz band just tear it up. I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the jam.

Ken Burns' documentary about Jazz, called Jazz - it has some flaws (noticeably that it focuses heavily on roots and swing and very little on free jazz, fusion or any other style that's been relevant in the last 50 years) but is a great introduction to a ton of canonical artists and classic styles. If you're interested in the newer stuff some classic staples worth getting are Bitches Brew by Miles Davis, Karma by Pharaoh Sanders, Mingus Ah Um by Charles Mingus and The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra.

This is a pretty long shot, but I was at a Japanese party last night, and this dude put on a band called Rip Slyme, does any one here know of them? Where would I go about starting?

I've heard a few of their songs but they don't seem to be particularly consistent or have tons of good B-sides or anything, apparently they have a compilation album called 'Good Job!' which would probably be a good place to start

The essential is Vegas, it has most of their classic hits on it. If you like that one, go ahead and get Tweekend and Legion of Boom. Their most recent one, Divided By Night is take-or-leave imo but it was pretty popular still I think.

Recently I was going through my playlist on iTunes, and I realized that Lou Reed pops up here and there (Trainspotting soundtrack, Adventureland soundtrack, new Gorillaz album, etc) and is usually the best track to be found. I don't actually have any Lou Reed stuff outside of this though, and I've just realized this probably means I'm missing out.

Where do I go from here?
