I grabbed Husker Du's New Day Rising and Zen Arcade the other day and I really love them both, so thank you for the suggestions. Going to hit up some record stores on Saturday to see if I can round up a couple Sugar albums too since I do love Mould's voice and used CDs are ridiculously cheap nowadays.

His second solo album was called Black Sheets of Rain, and I've always enjoyed it even though it's dark as hell.

Where should I start with some of those juggernauts of music(Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc.)

I really like The End by The Doors and Blackbird by The Beatles if that's any indication of what I like, this stuff is entirely new to me.

Black Sabbath - Paranoid, Volume IV

The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle

The Velvet Underground - Loaded

The Pretty Things - S.F. Sorrow

How do I get into The Kinks?

The Kink Kronicles is a pretty amazing best-of.

Their definitive album is The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society:

If you like that one, pick up Something Else, which is quirkier but just as compelling:

I feel like you Neil Young fans are lacking a little perspective when it comes to your recommendations. Archives is not a good starting point for someone wanting to get into Neil Young. It's really for the completists. Decade is an excellent best-of from the first ten years of his recording career; it's an incredibly solid retrospective. And it's cheap.

As far as single albums go, I think the best album to start with is After the Gold Rush.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWNfbvun0To

There is a newer release which I would also recommend called Live at Massey Hall, recorded in 1971, featuring early versions of some of his most-loved songs.

Albums? Fifth Dimension has Eight Miles High on it and is very good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5XuMWRHGU8

Just as good or better is Younger Than Yesterday.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ODvfc2XvXE

Better yet is Notorious Byrd Brothers.

Psychedelic rock is too big a topic, so I'll just recommend some Byrd spin-offs and solo projects.

This went in more a country-rock direction than psychedelic, but gently caress it. There's only two kinds of music, good and bad. I'll be back with more dadrock recommendations later.

Louder Than Love is the only Soundgarden album I can stand, but I saw them touring in support of that album so I'm probably biased. I thought they went downhill after that, got too bombastic. What I'm saying is check out Louder Than Love, it's got some good songs on it.

Mark Lanegan died, and the bits of news about him I read talked about these two bands. I just listened to a Youtube playlist of the Screaming Trees but it wandered off to other bands, as Youtube tends to do.

The only Screaming Trees album I really liked was Uncle Anesthesia from 1991. I think it was their major label debut and it's really accessible rock.

Start with side 1 of President Yo La Tengo. Then go directly to May I Sing With Me, and then proceed chronologically up to And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out. Skip Summer Sun, proceed to I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your rear end. Then listen to Fakebook.

The answer is yes.

Ringo’s self titled album has some pretty good stuff.

John Lennon worst stuff was merely okay. His half of Double Fantasy is also pretty good, but a lot of his early solo stuff is interesting because he’s still John, so he’s getting angry, doing poo poo like writing and recording Instant Karma as fast as possible and stuff like that. A lot of his mid 70s stuff doesn’t do it for me.

Paul McCartney is definitely the one with the widest range. Half of Band on the Run is amazing, the other half is forgettable Paul going nowhere music. He’s always had at least one or two big surprises up his sleeves. At his most gonzo would definitely be McCartney II, from which Coming Up inspired John Lennon to get back to writing music.

Harrison is probably the most interesting because as a Beatle, he got to do so little. So All Things Must Pass is essential. Cloud 9 is a really great album, and a huge come back for him since his previous 2 albums were largely forgettable, except for the Lennon tribute “All Those Years Ago.” The biggest thing is that he’s having fun, putting out stuff like Got My Mind Set On You and just being goofy as hell. But it doesn’t come off forced.

And don’t forget Traveling Wilburys Vol 1. Basically, he was asked to record a bonus track for a European 12 inch single, and through some fortuitous timing, got Jeff Lynne (the guy who produced Cloud 9, do not that surprising), Roy Orbison, Tom Pretty, and Bob Dylan to record a track with him. Warners rejected the track because they just wanted some filler, so he cuts a full album with them because they had so much fun, and is genuinely another great fun record, and a great swan song for Roy Orbison.

Vol 3 you can ship except for You Took My Breath Away.

No, Mystery Girl is the great swan song for Roy Orbison. You should keep Roy Orbison's name out of your mouth if you know so little.
