Where do I start with M.I.A.? After hearing Paper Planes, I have pretty much been listening to this song non-stop. I would love to find some more stuff from her or even something similar sounding to Paper Planes from another band as I haven't really heard anything that has sounded like it before.

Where do I start with Venetian Snares? Looks like the dude has like four thousand albums and I'm interested in some of his stuff or even the genre as a whole.

Where should I start with Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, The Doors and Mogwai?

For Mogwai, I would suggest starting with Mr. Beast followed by Happy Songs for Happy People.

Where do I start with, uh, the jungle/drum & bass genre? I am embarrassed to admit this but it's actually a cheesy video game track that made me wonder if there might be something in it for me to like after all-- I've gone my whole life hating the genre-- but it's completely out of my field so I have no idea where to start hunting.

I just love the chopped-up beats starting at 1:03. I want to listen to lots and lots of that.

You could maybe start with Pendulum, as much as I'm not really a fan, I think that's a good starting point and it's about as mainstream as drum 'n' bass gets. Maybe Spor and all of the darkstep guys are a good place to look next. Then there's the liquid funk subgenre, you have guys like High Contrast and Danny Byrd.

Stuff that's kind of related to D&B: If you want harder type stuff you can go with breakcore guys like Venetian Snares. There's dubstep, which is insanely popular right now. Then again, if you're looking for slower, chopped-up glitchy beats, maybe you'd be interested in IDM (which has a ton of different sounds and music nerds sit there arguing whether something is IDM or not), not drum 'n' bass.

You just really gotta look around, there's a lot of stuff. Some good radio stations to listen to are rinse.fm and BBC Radio 1xtra. Don't be afraid to AIM or PM me if you want some more specific recommendations about any type of electronic music.

On the subject of sampled/electronic stuff, another uncool videogame soundtrack reference: can you recommend anything in the vein of the Jet Set Radio soundtrack? I mean, I don't even know what genre it is, some kind of hip-hop? I like how it's bright and catch without being cheesy. Well, maybe it is cheesy. I wouldn't know.

For some reason I just think of breakbeat stuff like Freestylers, The Chemical Brothers, and of course Fatboy Slim. Maybe you'll also like some of the more instrumental hip-hop guys, namely the Ninja Tune crew.

C'mon now, I give him a propa cool rec and when he goes "ahh this isn't videogamey enough for me" you namedrop friggin' Pendulum? Just to take all the credit? So bitchy.

Man your rec was cool but Pendulum is basically about as entry-level as drum 'n' bass gets so why not. gently caress, I don't like it, but I know a lot of people do.

Where do I start with Tiesto, DeadMau5 and the Crystal Method? I've never really been into techno/house music but I'm starting to like it. I've listened to Ghosts n stuff and Trip like I do (Crystal Method). They're real good songs and I was wondering where to go from there. If you could recommend like a list of single songs instead of albums that'd be great.

Well since you're looking for single songs, it's all pretty subjective. I guess for Deadmau5, a lot of his stuff is pretty good so you can't really go wrong, but in particular I like Reward is More Cheese, I Remember, I'm Not Alone, Hi Friend, Move for Me, Not Exactly, and Faxing Berlin. I'd also recommending checking out Wolfgang Gartner and Adam K, among others.

As for Tiesto, well, I don't really like him so I don't have a clue. I just think he's generic. But I can recommend for you to check out the Anjunabeats label.

Where do I start with Aphex Twin and Venetian Snares? I know I start with drukqs for Aphex Twin, but are there any other essential albums? No clue on Venetian Snares.

Depends on what kind of music you want out of Aphex, but I'd go with Selected Ambient Works 85-92, the On EP, the Donkey Rhubarb EP, and the RDJ album. Venetian Snares I am less familiar with but I would probably recommend Rossz csillag alatt született and Winnipeg Is a Frozen Shithole.

My friend recommended that I listen to Venetian Snares about 4 years ago. I finally am wanting to branch out more into that style of music, but his discography is giant. Where do I start? Thanks :)

Rossz csillag alatt született and My Downfall for his stuff with modern classical in it (this is what most people listen to) or Winnipeg Is a Frozen Shithole if you're looking for his more traditional breakcore stuff.

Is there more like this? I really like those two albums, but not so much the plain old breakcore stuff.

I'm not really sure. I'm not too into breakcore but you can try more IDM-ish music like Aphex Twin or Boy Is Fiction or a bunch of other stuff if you haven't checked those guys out already.

Donuts is what everyone would probably recommend you start out with, then I'd check out Welcome 2 Detroit, The Shining, his work with Madlib on Champion Sound, and definitely some of his older stuff with Slum Village like Fantastic, Vol. 2.

For μ-Ziq you should look at Lunatic Harness, Bluff Limbo, and In Pine Effect, which is my personal favorite.
