Got my paintings as well today, and they're great! I had no idea the Departures painting would be so big. It's beautiful, and I really appreciate it. I now have an entire wall's worth of Dan Lacey paintings that I've been too lazy to frame. One of these days...

First off, there's no way this can live up to expectations, but thanks for waiting. Second off, it isn't done-but I'll stick with it here for the next day or two until it's completely finished. As you'll see I still need to add a large number of avatars and much more detail. I think you'll see why it's taken so long. But it's together enough for Christmas unveiling..

Yeah, you're right. I'll either bring the stripes from the rear legs up or the brown from the front section down to make it clearer that you're looking at one creature. I'll also start to populate the scene with flying figures emerging from the hole on the left side, while I continue to refine the image. This is just a camera shot, too-once I lay it down on the scanner and stitch it together in Photoshop it should look more impressive. I've put about fifty hours in this so far; I think another 20 or 30 should make it look pretty nifty. Really wanted to have this completed today, but Christmas, family, and all.
