KosherNostra posted:I'm just going to say this, but lots of foreigners pick Buenos Aires to speak spanish and I don't know why... As Argentinian living in Buenos Aires I've never understood why of all places they choose this city to learn spanish, we use a very deformed version of the language ( example: in almost every spanish speaking country cojer = to grab something, here cojer = to gently caress) Maybe they come here because it's a place they'll feel more "like" home or they just use it as an excuse to partying and buying cheap leather boots or jackets. The traditional places in South America with the most "correct" spanish are Bogota and the andean regions of Ecuador.

Paraguay is one of the most interesting places to visit, Asuncion is really nice and calm for a big city. The countryside is awesome and Ciudad Del Este it's a place from another planet.

Avoid Aerolineas Argentinas if possible. It's cheap sure , but very unreliable and the company is on bankruptcy now. But if you want to experience suffering their service like we do , fly with them.

Are you going to stay in Asuncion or in the country side?. Temperature wise, expect high temperatures and humidity but colder nights.

Tomato Soup posted:That's why I'm not looking forward to going back home in a few weeks I'm so used to everything here being a lot cheaper than it is in USA. One night at a bar at home could easily equal what I spent in Bolivia for a bed/food/drinks for a week. At least I didn't go directly from Bolivia to home, it was hard enough for me going from Bolivia to Argentina. Where are you changing buses? 2 changes for that trip seems excessive.

I'd recomend using pesos for taxis if you don't want to be raped with the fares. Everything else you should be able to pay with credit/debit cards or dollars. Keep in mind that people will try to scam you more using dollars than pesos but if you avoid dodgy places you'll do fine. And the exchange rate it's not that hard, 4 pesos = 1 dollar.

I'll put the cemetary on my list. You can go to la bombonera alone with no problem. If you like art the Bellas Artes museum and MALBA are nice. Other thing you can do is go to a random subte station and wander around the neighborhood.

You can travel easily by bus from Mendoza to Santa Fe in one night. If the game you are going to watch is the 8, you'll have to travel the 9.

Another good bus company is https://www.flechabus.com.ar but I think they don't have non stop buses between Mendoza and Santa Fe. You'll need to change bus in Cordoba.

Yeah, Flechabus has leather seats with individual tv screens and video on demand, like a first class flight on wheels.

Maybe the part called Microcentro is relatively small( 1km x 2km), but you can say that most of the city is part of the downtown ( or at least most of the places tourists tend to visit). Keep in mind that the city of Buenos Aires is only a small part of the whole metropolitan area. Regarding beaches , I think the best and closer ones are in Uruguay, like Punta del Este. But the weather it's still pretty cold and windy this time of the year.

Hadlock posted:The whole coast of Uruguay in the summer felt like the beach scenes from the movie Blow. Not the drugs part, just thousands and thousands of miles of unadulterated sandy beaches filled with small towns and young people, with no sign of commercialism anywhere, like something out of 1960's California. The closest thing to commercialism in many of those towns was walking the 10 minutes from the beach to the general store to buy a coke or Fanta. I want to retire there And lots of drugs in Punta del Este.

You can visit Gramado near Porto Alegre , a small mountain town founded by german immigrants ( I think it's the only place in Brasil where it snows). Laguna is another cool place to visit, for it's history or at least to see the dolphins helping local fishermen (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/southamerica/brazil/734722/Brazils-sexiest-secret.html) Maybe you can visit Curitiba too, http://wikitravel.org/en/Curitiba Or if you are driving you can head to the Serra do rio Rastro and drive one of the most insane roads in Brasil

Both are safe with plenty of places to shop but from my experience living in both neighborhoods several years, Belgrano is quieter and greener. Edit: Palermo is a big neighborhood with different zones, some places are better than others. hello i am phone fucked around with this message at 19:41 on Oct 3, 2013 |

If you are in Misiones, another place to visit is Mocona Falls. It's not popular as Iguazu but it's in a bigger natural reserve and not that exploited. http://www.wondermondo.com/Countries/SA/Argentina/Misiones/Mocona.htm Another place if you are interested in nature photography is the Ibera Wetlands in Corrientes province.

Eat a ton of pizza. I'd recomend Las Cuartetas and El Cuartito in downtown BA or if you are near Colegiales and Belgrano, La Mezzeta and order a fugazzeta rellena ( onion pizza stuffed with mozzarella inside the dough) and die happy.

I'd recommend eating a lot of pizza and ice cream besides all the meat you already plan to eat. Go to some of the classic pizzerias like El Palacio de la pizza, Las Cuartetas, Güerrin or El Cuartito. All look stuck in the 70's but it's part of the charm.
