Home sick from work and just watched all 6 episodes of Frontier. Won't be making that mistake again. They somehow managed to make 6 hours go by with absolutely nothing happening. Like at all. Everyone is in the same place as when the first episode ends. Really lovely show. I did like how everyone had yellow gross teeth though. Really added to the realism.

Schitt's Creek is fantastic. I watched the first two episodes and then binges through the other two seasons in the days with my roommates. One of my favorite new comedies. And The Detour. That show is awesome too.

Just watch all the episodes with Gary's Olde Towne Pub and then the last 6 episodes of the last season and you're good. Then fire up Frasier and watch it front to back if you haven't seen it. I think Frasier was a million times funnier than Cheers.

STAC Goat posted:I binged Incorporated and I mostly enjoyed it. A good job building a world and compelling rationalizations for desperate people to do immoral things. It never really falls under the weight of its amoral protagonist I think because not only do they present those rationalizations but they do a good job showing the other side of it, the people he hurts, and the anger and guilt that creates. I enjoyed it. I have my concerns about extending the story but there are still some questions I have or things I'd like to see so I'm on board. Black Sails is pretty great. I almost stopped watching it during season 1, but the last 3 episodes were soooooo good that I just had to see where it was going. Season 2 was fantastic and season three was pretty good as well. It's in the final season now, but I haven't seen anything for it yet.

Just blasted through Hap and Leonard. It was pretty good, but got kinda dumb in the last two episodes with characters doing just really stupid stuff that didn't make sense at all. Really like Soldier as a bad guy though. Slap happy insane villains are my favorites. Are they gonna make a second season?

About two episodes into Sneaky Pete. I can't tell if I like it or not which is weird because I can't point to anything I dislike about it, but there's just something about it. I give everything at least 3 episodes so maybe the next one will seal it one way or the other.

I'm 5 episodes into Westworld and struggling to get through it. Does it ever get more interesting or is this all it is? Besides Ed Harris there isn't any interestingly acted characters and I just don't seem to be giving a poo poo about the actual plot beats. Is it safe to give up on it or does it get incredibly good in the last half?

People kept telling me it was a super original mix of Memento and Blade Runner presented in a very amazing way and it's most assuredly not really any of those things....maybe a little of Blade Runner. It's why I asked if it's just a super slow burn to get to anything more interesting or original. I think if I had watched it in a vacuum I wouldn't have this lingering feeling of disappointment anytime Ed Harris or Anthony Hopkins wasn't on screen.

Yeah, I finished it out and the last half was a lot better, but still dragged on for me in parts. The last episode was really good though. I hope they drop the multiple timeline storytelling for season two. I don't think it was handled as well as it could have been.

sweetmercifulcrap posted:Sorry, this was from like three months and many pages ago but I couldn't ignore it because some posters said that it doesn't get better. It is indeed a slow burn and a bit of a slogfest through episodes 3-6... but the ending is one of the best payoffs I've ever seen in any television show, ever. It's so good that it warranted a rewatch of the entire season for reasons that I can't say because of spoilers. Yeah, I finished it and it was OK. I didn't think it was incredible or anything though. And I'm still not sure they actually got independent thought what with Alberts little speech about "don't you wanna know why you're doing this?"

sweetmercifulcrap posted:Maeve's modified programming instructed her to "infiltrate mainland." Up to the point of getting on the train to escape, she was following her code. Her decision to get off the train and seek out her "daughter" was her first conscious decision (although annoying to the viewer, as it was). I suppose you could make an argument that Dolores is still just following her programming, but when the entire point of the first season is that all of the hosts actually retain memories and slowly progress toward consciousness if not reset frequently, I don't think the audience has any reason to question this. You're forgetting where Albert says "you get on the train and then..." and she cuts him off. Ford convinces Dolores to "awaken." I know it wasn't intended, but it's still a stupid conclusion that I didn't feel was earned. Good show though, and I'll probably watch the next season now that things are going to start happening.

No, I meant Arnold. Arnold said (end Westworld spoilers) that to Maeve right before she went on her grand adventure. Pretty sure at least. Haven't watched through it a second time, but pretty sure that's what he says. Add that to Ford basically instructing Deloras to kill everyone and I'm not so sure the sentient thing is what we're supposed to think it is. Eh, either way I'm gonna watch season two. Wasn't as good as it was hyped up to be for me, but it was good enough (especially with the Nine Inch Nails piano cover) to keep me in it. edit: Honestly the Something I Can Never Have and The Forest piano parts made me almost fall in love with the show. I should have watched it when it aired instead of ignoring it and having it hyped by my friends. edit edit: spoilers Solice Kirsk fucked around with this message at 06:58 on Aug 5, 2017 |

Spartacus is one of my favorite shows of all time. It's surprisingly well written and acted for an action drama. And it ended perfectly. Just a great show from start to finish. I almost gave up on it too after the second episode, but after the third I decided to give it one more because I really didn't think they'd have Spartacus lose so early. Then The Thing in the Pit happened followed by Shadow Games and I was hooked for ever.

I can't recommend it enough. Watch the first 4 or 5 episodes and if you're not absolutely hooked by the end of "Shadow Games" then it's definitely not gonna be a show for you. Its a slow start, but once it hits it doesn't let off until the very end of the series.
