This is my current bike, a 2000 MV Agusta F4S. I bought it new years ago. I was one of the first people to own a MV Agusta F4S in the U.S. except for the Oro series guys. It's a 750cc sportbike and by todays standards it's a bit heavy (about 480 lbs true wet weight) and slightly underpowered (126 stated hp but about 113-118 rwhp) but it still has an amazingly sweet chassis. It's so wonderfully balanced as you trailbrake hard into a turn and so utterly composed. The only area which I wish it were better would be weight. If I could shave 80+ pounds off it so it's true wet weight would be below 400 lbs it would be perfect but then again even now no current street superbike or supersport is close to 400.

I haven't felt any pressing need to buy a new bike yet but I have been considering a new MV Agusta F4 1078RR 312 or the new Ducati 1098R. I wouldn't mind getting one of the big 4 literbikes either but I think of the Japanese sportbikes I love the GSX-R 750 the best. I really think that the 750 class is a great class for sportbikes and I'm sorry that everyone abandoned it except for Suzuki. Given the horrible economy currently I'm going to see if things settle down first before getting a new bike.

With more stuff like the Can Am coming out I wonder why nobody can title four wheelers for use on road. If some states say lights and a plate is enough for a dirtbike, why not an ATV?
Because most states consider anything with 4 wheels as a car or truck requiring them to meet car and truck standards and not motorcycle standards which require 2 or 3 wheels and an engine. It's a statutory problem. Some people here in NYC do register and plate 4 wheelers but they do so at sketchy shops and it isn't actually legal to the best of my knowledge.

url, you're in for quite a learning experience going from the forgiving low powered Ninja 250 to the MV Agusta F3 800. I've owned an MV F4S 750 since 2000. When someone said you're in for the full Italian motorcycle ownership experience they weren't kidding but you'll understand why people put up with it the first time you tip the MV into a corner at speed. It's a scalpel. I've taken a long hiatus from riding because of a serious neck injury but pulled out the MV this weekend to go for a short ride. I had forgotten how much I miss riding. So despite my injuries, I've decided to get back on the road again.

Despite the fact that I don't need a new bike I find myself searching the internet for more about the Panigale 899, F3 800, Aprilia RSV4 Factory and HP4.

Just picked up my KTM RC390 today. So so tiny, narrow and light. It's really fun chucking it around corners at legal speeds.

I still have my MV but I think I'll be on the KTM more on a day to day basis.

Oh man I want one so bad. Details!
Super fun. It's about 340 lbs or so fully fueled which makes it 80-120 lbs lighter than the superbikes/supersports. It also super super narrow. The geometry is pure sportbike but the ergos are a bit more relaxed. Given the light weight and chassis geometry you'd expect it to be super fast side to side but it's actually quite stable. The seat is the same height as most sportbikes at 32.3 inches but the footpegs are a touch lower than the superbikes making it pretty accommodating for long legs. Personally, I like high and committed rearsets so I'll likely switch the footpegs for the RC390 cup ones. 43 hp is plenty sufficient and the motor has a good midrange but if you're coming from a superbike it does feel down on power. You need to work the gears a bit more. The bike would be even better with maybe 20 more hp but the power to weight is already class leading among the R3 CBR300 Ninja 300 etc. Suspension is compliant as noted in many reviews and at 180 lbs I didn't have too many complaints so far about the suspension. We'll see once I push it a bit more. Brakes are a bit soft compared to radially mounted monobloc double disc fronts of the superbikes but they are adequate and I won't be able to really opine until they bed in and I use them a bit more. It is a bike that's obviously built to a price point but it doesn't seem too cheaply built at all.

It's super fun to ride since it's so small and light with adequate power. I'm having a tremendous amount of fun even inside the speed limits on back roads, I never even use 6th on my MV but on the KTM I can use all the gears. I'm supposed to keep it below 7500 rpm for break in but it'd going to be tough. It's always been my dream to own a Ducati Supermono, the 61 hp 277 wet weight single cylinder race bike but so few were ever made and now they command $150,000 prices. The KTM could have more power, better brakes, better suspension but at $5499 it's as good an attempt as anyone has managed at that price point to give us a Supermono.

The new RC390 spec includes a slipper clutch. The first batch of them that arrived don't have them but should have them shortly. To be honest, I'm not even sure if mine has one because I always rev match and haven't tested for wheel hop yet

There is pretty much no better time to be in the market for a low displacement sport bike: KTM RC390, Yamaha R3, Honda CBR300R and Ninja 300 are all good choices. It wasn't that long ago that the only option was the Ninja 250. Here is some RC390 porn from KTM:

My RC390 has a decent fuel gauge, a gear indicator, a clock, back-lit controls so you can see the markings in the dark and it's a cheap bike especially compared to my MV.

For the price it's awesome but my one real complaint is that the tank is a thimble.

RS660 and 790 Duke/890 Duke R are high on my list of possible replacement commuter bikes for my RC390. One thing I love about the RC is that it's so light and tiny that it's like tossing around my mountain bike so I'd like to have that in its replacement. Really wish they had made an upscale version of the RC like the Ducati Supermono.

Right now every dealer service department in my area is absolutely crushed with work. I've been seeing 4 week plus waits for appointments. That said, at least they give a specific date rather than just saying we'll get to it when we get to it.

Ducati and BMW dealers are relatively available in my area but try getting an MV or Aprilia serviced and you'll be travelling. One other issue is that many dealers in the area esp for the big 4 are big dealerships that have horrible reputations so if you want to go to a well regarded shop rather than just any authorized dealer you'll be travelling anyway. I'm getting my MV serviced by a specialized performance shop with tons of MV experience rather than Motorcycle Mall which is exactly what you would guess from the name. Luckily KTM dealerships aren't too far.

I'm sad that only Suzuki has continued to make 750s although they never update it. I know that the 750s were only that displacement because of superbike racing rules but since their disappearance you now have beefed up 600s like the 636 or 800+ cc triples or like Ducati has done a middleweight that is now a 955cc V2.

After 20 years the only thing wrong with it is that the high/low beam button gets stuck in the high position and I have to press it repeatedly to get it back into the low position.

I was using my phone to take audio of the MV's engine sounds by keeping it in an open pocket and of course it flipped out of my pocket at 35 mph. Boring short video since it's mostly audio but it does show the phone exiting my pocket.

Maybe it's an optical illusion because of the lack of fairing but the gap between the front wheel and front of the bike makes the trail look super long and slow turning.

Uh yeah don't look at basically any bike from before 1990.

Before radial tyres, trail braking wasn't a thing, aggressively using the front tire wasn't a thing. Instead the emphasis was on stability that let you enter corners as quickly as possible, using fast but orthodox lines. All the sporty fast bikes were very long and low as there was no value in having a tall, pitchy, stubby bike like today because that simply wasn't the way to get the most out of the tyres.
I don't remember the sportbikes of the era because I started on standards (Nighthawk 450) in the very late 80s. So I went back and googled the '87 Ninja because of your post and drat if you aren't right. The fork angles look so lazy compared to today.
