I used to have the same kind of desk and when I first got it, my H510 would only fit if I squeezed the top in under the grate first then slid the bottom on the shelf. Then I switched to a Lian Li o11 and I had to drill new holes and move the top shelf up.

Speaking of, since my desk went from being in my basement home gym to being part of my living room I got tired of the "gamer" aesthetics so i got a cleaner-looking case (Fractal North), then junked the Amazon desk and went for the tried and true "countertop on cabinets" desk, exchanged my wired headphones for the horrifically overpriced, absolutely not worth it, please don't do this SteelSeries Arctis Pro, finally coughed up the cash for a proper low profile mic arm, got some brackets to hide the work laptop under the desk and finally did some semi-proper cable management (please don't look under the desk) and now I have something cleaner that doesn't bother me as much:

I'm still looking for a cleaner solution for the wireless charger (I would LOVE something under/through the desk but as far as I know those don't work with watches) and I might move the audio interface out of the way once I find settings that I like and I stop constantly fiddling with the knobs.

Is that pegboard the one from IKEA? I’ve seen that and been interested in it previously but wasn’t sure how well it’d look.

Nah, it's from a hardware store; I had a ton of leftover pegs/hooks/trays from another one I had in my shed so I wanted to make sure I could use them. I have a friend who has the Ikea one and it honestly looks pretty much the same and he has the same kind of stuff hanging on it (controller, headphones, keyboard) without a hitch.

The portrait monitor is ace.

Real answer: They used to when they were wall-mounted but the desk mount that I have now can't really do that, or rather I'd need 6 inches of space behind the desk to bend the arms enough. It's also a bit jarring to go from 4k to 1080p and the gap helps a bit.

I kinda want to get a 27" (maybe 1440?) monitor to replace the portrait and make it a bit more useful but I feel like I'm over wasting my money, plus my mic arm barely fits under the 24" already and I'd have to move a ton of poo poo around to make my setup work if the arm can't fit under the portrait monitor.

If you want an adventure to go on, search for a local blacksmith or 'fabrication metalworker' lol.

They could probably cut your arm in half and butt weld in an extra 6 inches. Surprisingly, there's no typo in that last sentence. If they're good and understand the assignment it should take barely any time.

Especially if you supply the 6 inches. That's what she said.

Even if this "mod job" sounds ridiculous to you, which it is in a way, I'd recommend being friends with a metalworker anyway, they are terrifically useful.

Cheaper and easier option is to give up on the dual arm and get a single arm for the second monitor

There absolutely no question that arms are better, you can get the monitor exactly where you want it and can also put a shelf under if you wanted.

That was one of the first things hung up in here because my cousin loaned it to me when we moved here and I just needed it not in the reach of a small child.

The rest of the room has grown around it like some kind of RGB-powered synth station, and, while it does look kind of hilariously out of place now I think it contributes to my TGI Friday's Redneck Catboy vibe that I am rocking in here.

Why is finding an actual computer desk such a challenge these days? Somewhere to put a tower with a big keyboard tray and a drawer or two. I don’t need these stupid built in monitor shelves, I have vesa for that.

I'd suggest looking used for what you are wanting it sounds like. For a while now the trend has been a slab for a top, some legs or Ikea Alex drawers, maybe a sit/stand setup, and that's about it. Keyboard trays haven't really been a popular thing for a while now.

That said, I used to have a big, 6' x 3' executive desk. It held everything I could want, however once I moved it into the room I set up for an office, 3' deep was a bit much, so I cut it down to 2'. I even put it on casters, as it was a heavy beast to try and slide around. Those casters though raised it to a very uncomfortable height to type on. I grabbed a couple of heavy duty slide rails and a slab of 1" x 10" (it's actually a stair tread blank) and made a keyboard tray at the perfect height. Also the keyboard tray being 4' wide gives so much space.

So yeah, if you are wanting what would be a desk desk, I'd hit up FB Marketplace to start. I'd also check to see if there are any used office furniture places around you. I've got one not too far away and they sell desktops for like 25-50 bucks, and then you can get the legs you want for around 10-15 each. I'd guess most large-ish cities would have something similar somewhere hidden. I'd also check Goodwill, and bonus if you have a Goodwill Outlet store near you, as they will dump office stuff for dirt cheap. I've picked up 2 5' motorized sit/stand desks for $2 each in the past year. Downside to Goodwill is, you have to check all the time and get lucky to get one, as their inventory moves fast.

If you need transportation that will accommodate a full size desk, places like Menards and Lowe's will rent a truck out for the day. Last I looked (this was pre-Covid though) it was 20 bucks, though you do have to top off the tank before you return it. Could also rent a small uhaul for not too much more for a quick day trip.

Oh, bring some tools though if you get something big. Odds are you can disassemble it to flat, but would need a screwdriver at a minimum, maybe an Allen Wrench set (some higher end desks used them). If it's a sit/stand then you'll need actual wrenches.
