Oh god I am envious of that giant mousepad. Playing TF2 on a tiny little 9-inch one suuuucks. The worst is that I don't really have any more room for one either with my current setup :I

Edmond Dantes posted:That looks quite like what I need... would you mind posting the dimensions? (If it's a known Ikea desk I apologize in advance, we don't have Ikea here so I'm clueless). That would be this desk. Galants are pretty common and well-liked in the SH/SC desktop thread, and they come in a ton of different configurations.

Inside: I hate this desk. It's too drat big, really, all the top unit does is collect a shitton of dust. Would like to replace it with a Galant, but holy poo poo that's expensive for something that doesn't come with drawers Outside: Pretty nice when it's not a billion degrees. Summer in Georgia

Ikea Vika system! Whoo. Check out that ethernet cable just chillin out on the ground. I got a Signum wire organizer screwed into the bottom; that's what those wires on the left are heading up to. I want to get an iPhone dock so I can get rid of that extra wire on my desk, too. What I don't like about this desk is how light, and thus ultra-vibration-prone, the Vika Amon tabletop is. That light is wobbling like loving crazy as I type this, and so is my monitor (though I've adjusted to that and it's not so bad). Ugh. Oh. And when I lean down on it, it kinda sounds like I just stepped on a box of packing peanuts. That's... that's bad, isn't it? abraham linksys fucked around with this message at 01:36 on Sep 19, 2011 |

Granite Octopus posted:Already posted once before, but now it's the other way! Go me! Sup lovely Vika tabletop bro. Ever since I screwed in a cable holder to the bottom, leaning down on it produces a horrible crunching noise from the cardboard within. It's wobbly and I think slightly bent in the middle (if I tap one edge of my keyboard, the other side pops up). Pretty sure it'll collapse someday, taking $1400ish in consumer electronics with it.

My Vika tabletop is already falling apart. I should have gotten a Galant, but I think I'm moving within the next year, so hopefully the point is moot. I'm kind of terrified it's going to one day snap in half with all my poo poo on it, though (what I'm saying is do not be fooled by the cheap tables and get a goddamn Galant)

Use your laptop for work. Plug your desktop into your TV so you can game from the couch. Invest in a 360 controller and wireless receiver (and of course a wireless KB/M). This is my current setup, and it's absolutely fantastic, and I have no idea why more people don't do this.

So because my Ikea tabletop is a piece of poo poo (protip: don't screw in the Galant cable organizer into a Vika particleboard top, regardless of if the Ikea salesmen say it'll be fine), when I press down on my normally silent Mac keyboard, it wobbles a bit and is apparently loud as poo poo, which pisses off anyone in an adjacent room. While I've been considering just saying gently caress it, embracing the loudness, and getting a mechanical keyboard, in the meantime I've been doing this to quiet it: Problem is, the notebook of course slides around like crazy. Are there any rubber keyboard mats that can go under it to both hold it in place and silence it?

Chalkboards make the worst loving noises in the world and I would hate that. Especially the chalk dust. A giant whiteboard, on the other hand, would own.

Who needs a chair back? I took mine off a while ago because it was wobbly and I thought the bolts needed tightening, but I think I'm fine with it like this. I never lean back anyways. Spinal stress injuries here I come
