A glass Ikea Galant desk really makes Apple equipment look good. I like having it up on the Griffin Elevator to make it even with my 2001fp. This desk is so huge, it's a great change from the top of a half-height chest of drawers I had earlier.

I have a Drobo down below my desk which spontaneously reboots sometimes, but Drobo support has chalked it up to resetting if the hard drives spin up too slowly, and they've promised to exchange it if I ever get annoyed enough to call them up again. Make sure to update the firmware and use USB, not Firewire.

Sorry for the low quality picture, I only have an iPhone to take pictures with.

You have a giant Hackintosh, a Dell keyboard, and a Mighty Mouse!? WTF?

Get a MX Revolution or something....

Also anybody know of a good deal on a laptop stand? The basket I'm using isn't quite cutting it.

If you want to be extremely cool looking, buy the Xtand Pro: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TV764LL/A

The Griffin Elevator is cheaper, but not as cool looking: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TK651LL/A

I have one of each (two laptops) and I'd recommend the Xtand if you want to pay for it. Both work well.

There have been a ton of awesome setups in this thread. It's been awhile since my last post.

Moved into a new place 2 weeks ago. Made an Ikea run and picked up a Vika Glasholm table top with Vika Artur legs. Also snagged a Markus chair.

Started getting the contents of the desk setup. What is the banana hanger I see everyone using for a headphone rack? I haven't pulled the headphones out yet, but I'll need a place for them shortly.

Why the two keyboards? Get synergyKM or teleport.

Also, awesome glass desk. I have one, too. Macs look great on glass.

Edit: Frosted all the way, clear is uncool.

Anyone have a glass Galant?

I do! It's amazing. I got the rectangular one. Get the frosted glass variant, because clear glass is hard to keep clean. Also, the shiny legs look good with a glass desk. Only issue I've had is that you can't drill into it to attach stuff. The glass is remarkably strong, so I wouldn't be too concerned about breaking it, but I haven't really tried to break it.

Apple products look really snazzy on top of frosted glass. I've found myself getting fancy aluminum stands for things just so they look better on the desk.

That's exactly what I have. It looks wicked cool. You'll end up getting one of these to hold your MBP up to match your Cinema Display:

Looks great! The Performance MX is a good buy for your glass desk. However, I'm concerned about your desk legs, they look really far apart for a glass desk. My Galant glass with the official ikea legs+frame has some rubber support things 1/4 and 3/4 of the way down the middle. Check out the assembly guide, specifically the last icon:

It should work fine on his desk. I have a different monitor mount that has the same type of clamp and it holds up great.

On glass? I'm worried about shattering the desk by putting too much leverage on the very edge and getting stabbed in the balls by a three foot long shard of glass. I'd be putting two Cinema Displays on separate arms.

Pro tip for Coffee Jones: get a Logitech Performance MX, it can track straight on the glass Galant's surface with no mousepad magazine.

The wall is right behind the desk, but I'm in an apartment, and reluctant to drill big holes in the wall. Maybe if I just attach a two-by-four to the wall at the studs, then attach the arms to that...

The monitors are attached to the Mac Pro, the laptop stands on its own. (You can never have enough monitor space.) I don't think I'd mount the 2001FPs.

The wallpaper is a hard drive. I can't find any good four-monitor wallpapers of sufficient resolution and awesomeness.

What are you using for a laptop stand there?

I had a Revolution before I got this desk, but it doesn't track on glass. I have a Logitech Performance MX now, which can, thus no need for a mousepad. The wire sticking out from the right side Cinema Display is the mini-usb charging cable, no nifty but finicky dock anymore.

The laptop stand is the Xtand Pro. It's pretty sweet, but expensive.

The glass is reasonably thick and sturdy and I don't see any signs that it is stressed by the weight.

You wouldn't see any signs of stress with tempered glass, just *POP* *SMASH* and your desk is now a million individual little pieces of glass and the edges of those monitors are headed straight for your balls.

At least, that's my nightmare scenario. I'm considering doing the same with an iMac and my white glass Galant at some point soon.

This guy is my hero: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/terrys-glass-expansedesktops---161685

Looks like he used wood on the bottom of the glass to make it thick enough for his Ergotron MXes to clamp.

Here's my glass Galant. I finally mounted an iMac to an arm clamped to the desk, and spent some time cleaning up the wires so you can't see them at all. It looks awesome. I think the white smoked glass on the Galant is quite a bit nicer looking than clear glass is. It's better at hiding fingerprints and stuff, but it's still shiny glass.

You have to show me how you did this. Very, very sleek and clean.

One carefully chosen camera angle and lots and lots of zipties.

I ziptied some power strips to the metal frame which helped considerably with the cabling, and then sort of wedged and ziptied an Ikea wire holder into place. It's a bit janky but works remarkably well, despite it being originally designed to screw into the underside of a wooden desk. I could probably be a bit cleaner about the cables under the desk but I keep re-wiring them and don't wan't to ziptie them all down quite yet.

Here's the arm holding the iMac. I put cardboard between the metal clamp and the underside of the desk to spread out the pressure.

I bet could get rid of even more wires if I used Wi-Fi instead of Ethernet and didn't have my laptop hooked up for Target Display Mode to the iMac.

I've got a 27" iMac on the way and want to buy a new desk to replace my $20 Staples special. The Galant looks to be the way to go, but I'm having a hard time deciding between the full-sized 63" or the shorter 47". There is room for either size in my office, and my current desk is 43" wide, so either way I'll get more space. I'm wondering if any of you have 27" monitors on the smaller 47" Galant and wish you'd gone with the bigger size, or if the 47" still feels roomy enough with the monitor?

Also, any thoughts on A vs. T legs? I normally wouldn't care, but I have a 6 month old and want to get whatever will be the sturdiest for when she starts toddling around and pulling on things.

I have a 27" iMac and the 63" Galant. You could probably fit it onto a smaller desk but I definitely appreciate the extra room. Losing the extra inches would make it pretty tight IMHO, especially if you have the iMac on a stand and not an arm.

A legs are awesome.

I had a Mac Pro on a SUMMERA for a year, it worked great. Not sure how that compares to a 650D, but Mac Pros are pretty huge and heavy.
