I have one question about the ending of Tales of Phantasia. Obviously massive spoilers.

Is it correct that Martel's fate is different in each version? Puts herself in the seed in the Super Famicom version, doesn't put herself in the seed in the PS2 version, doesn't put herself in the seed and gets a barrier to keep the process private or something in the GBA version?

Yeah, there are. You can look at the wikipedia article for more details.

That's where I got the info. I was just wondering because the Tales Wiki said something slightly different, and I was wondering which was correct.

Reading this guide it seems you have to fight a level ONE HUNDRED SIXTY monster in chapter four for the collector sidequest. Is that true?

Holy gently caress guys, the Twilight palace is insane. You get really amazing equipment there, and the enemies are tough as hell. And then, at the end, you fight a ridiculous boss that I couldn't even deal more than like 40 damage to each hit. Plus he has four companions who are high level monsters, which barely ever flinch, and can heal themselves pretty easily. gently caress that fight

I had to change the battle rank back to normal because I kept dying in the S rank missions, including the Twilight one. Mainly the battles were long and boring and I'd fight battles like two misc enemies and then two Blue Roses, who would constantly heal the other enemies and each other, making the battle drag on for minutes. I'm probably extremely lucky I beat any S rank missions under level 70 on hard.

And I was just looking at that weird guide that was just posted, I hope I get the true ending, which I guess is the good ending. I assume it will tell me which ending I get after I beat the game? Also can you do the phoenix sidequest in your first playthrough?

Endings:
Letter = BAD
"I know." = Normal
Kiss = Good

This is based on what I know, since I haven't had time to beat this yet (gently caress releasing the day before WotLK).

IIRC you want to let Lloyd beat you to the Lightning core at least once, so you can get a title you can only get if you do that or something.

Hey, that's how I interpreted the bad ending! It's the only thing that made me feel better after playing through that mess.

Also to fight that Phoenix you have to revisit the ruins in Asgard. I don't know how it would go if you didn't start that sidequest with Richter, but go to the right and walk north in those separate paths until you see a statue. If you were with Richter he'd point out something suspicious about the area. Since he won't be with you, try to search the statue for a button. Just follow the leads from there if the game allows you to.

The letter ending was toned down for the US release, I'm pretty sure in the japanese version she does kill herself.

There's a reference in ToS2 to something called the Symphonian Eight, which I think is an in-setting sentai team series vaguely based on the centurions.

Speaking of ToS2, is there a skit viewer anywhere?

if you intentionally miss the lightning core, you'll pick up Lloyd's third mask, and then there's an event later where you get the fourth mask and a title.

You don't get the scene where Emil and Marta get new titles at the ending if you do that.

Also, Tales of Symphonia has some pretty brutal stuff too - I really feel sorry for every one of the Four Seraphim.

So that's four games set in the Tethe'alla/Sylvarant universe?

Which brings up another point: Doesn't Tales of Phantasia take place after Symphonia 1/2? How can there still be Mana in the world? Wasn't Rattatosk going to use it all up to seal Niflheim? It kind of makes me sad because that means all of Emil and Marta's journey was for nothing.

I'm guessing that the answer is that there will be another game set after DNW.

It will answer that, as well as what Yuan was doing that prevented him from assisting with the whole "Dhaos" thing, and also Noishe's destiny/evolution thing.

Of course that's completely half-assed speculation.

EDIT: I've started playing ToA, goddamit Luke is almost as annoying as Emil. Fortunately Jade makes up for him by himself, without counting the other non-terrible characters.

Are recent Tales games made by people with an extremely abnormal hatred of video capture devices?

Tales of the Abyss freaks out my video capture dongle (an EyeTV hybrid). After reinstalling the software, trying a different computer, trying a different copy of the same device, and trying other things I discovered that apparently the ONLY games which have this issue are Tales of the Abyss and ToS:DNW.

Not if you didn't steal from the fake. That said, he's totally beatable without an all-divide (ok I used one in my LP, but I was playing on mania and I came pretty close on my first attempt without one).

How well do ranged attackers work in Abyss/etc? I haven't gotten far enough into Abyss to get the Princess due to WoW/my LPs/etc.
