Weird Uncle Dave posted:Is there any workaround for this, or any official channels for making suggestions to TiVo? Disclaimer: This is all on my Series 3 Tivo HD. A trick I've found is: If you are watching live TV and hit "Live TV" then it will swap tuners. So, the solution I think would be: 1. Choose "Do nothing". 2. Pause your baseball game on Tuner A. 3. Hit "Live TV" to swap to Tuner B. 4. Change the channel to the scheduled recording about to start and record it manually. 5. Swap tuners again and go back to your baseball game on Tuner A.

Well, the TiVo box does have a relatively meager 300mhz CPU. I think it works fine. It plays my podcasts fine, anyways.

Should be "Account & System Information" - "Media Access Key". But your TiVo may be a bit different down under. Also, I Googled and found http://forums.oztivo.net/showthread.php?t=1854 which says "Media Access Keys have not been released in Australia yet." Granted, this is from the middle of last year, but that forum post also have some other tricks you can try.

Coincidentally, I am moving in a few days and I just ordered FiOS at my new place. I have two single stream CableCards on the way for my TivoHD; multi-stream cards are not available yet. I live and will be living in Central NJ.

Yeah, your hard drive is probably dying. It could be dying for some random reason, and causing the heat, or it could be getting too hot just because the ambient temperature is too hot in the case or the surrounding areas. Regardless of the cause you should replace the drive. A good guide is http://www.rosswalker.co.uk/tivo_upgrade/

Did they send you the non-Tivo version? If so then that is really annoying. What is the model number of your replacement drive?

smackfu posted:I just signed up for Comcast and got them to setup the Cablecard for my Tivo. It works great actually, although the installer gave me two S-Cards from 2006 that the guy found in a box in the warehouse. WTF? He said they were out of M-Cards but I think he just didn't know where to look since who keeps stock from 2006 around? If Comcast is like Cablevision they will charge you the same amount for an S Card as they do for an M Card. So, that Comcast installer is making you pay twice as much as you should be for Cablecards.

brc64 posted:I don't remember if it was covered earlier (or if I already asked it), but is Tivo smart enough to handle situations where a tv show starts late due to a sporting event? No. The guide data just isn't updated fast enough to catch a show delayed because of a football game that goes into overtime. The best you can do is to add padding. http://support.tivo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/351

First, check the temperature. Have you recently moved it to a new shelf or location where it could be hotter? System Status should also show the internal temperature. If not, then it is probably the drive. Use WinMFS to backup the drive. Use the truncated backup (to lose all your shows, but saves everything else). Then restore that backup to a new drive.

I have FIOS and a Tivo HD and they work fine together. There is no interaction between the cable box and the Tivo. The Tivo has CableCARDs (either one M card or two S cards; in operation both behave exactly the same) and tunes its own channels. It can and usually does replace your cable box. In my case I decided to keep the cable box. The Tivo goes to HDMI input 1 on my TV, the cable box to HDMI input 2. One reason is in the rare case that 3 things are on at the same time I can have the Tivo record 2 of them and watch the third on the cable box. I'd say this happens maybe once a month. Second is the FIOS cable box is actully kind of cool. The on-screen guide is pretty nice. The widgets are sometimes fun to play with. Also, the cable box can order movies and even new channels on-demand, things the Tivo cannot and probably will not ever be able to do. On my Verizon bill the STB rental fee is $5.99, but then I get a Free Rental credit of $5.99. In effect it costs me nothing to keep the box. Not sure if your plan is similar. I am on "Verizon Flex". The CableCARDs are $3.99 each per month. Try to get an M card to save $3.99/month. Hope this helps.

I totally agree that the TiVo needs to, at the very least, do some sort of streaming in the home, a la the WD TV Live. Even if it is rudimentary, like being able to offload previously TiVo'ed shows to a SMB share or something, and then stream it back later. Being to stream an XviD would be ideal. C'mon TiVo, the software needs to get better. I've been waiting to see if there was anything better coming along, but with this news it has finally been the push to get me to open up my TiVo HD and pop in that 1TB drive.

I think it was worth the price and I'm just glad I won't have to buy anymore lifetime subscriptions when newer models come out. Hey now what? How do you know you won't have to buy anymore lifetime subscriptions? I bought a lifetime on my Series 2, hoping that would be that last one. Then I had to pay a transfer fee (that was >50% of the cost of the original lifetime subscription fee) to move it to my Series 3. If I were to buy a Premiere there would be another fee of $199 to transfer the sub again. TiVo has always said that lifetime subscriptions are for the lifetime of the hardware. If newer models come out and you decide to upgrade to them you'll probably be paying more fees.

Ah, I was not aware the Premiere added that option to the UI. I have a Tivo HD. I rarely use the button for either purpose. I do what Golbez does for commercials. I find the button useful only in one rare situation: nearing the end of a long recording is something I want to watch again. However I reach the end and get the "delete/save" menu. No option to just go back to watching. Now if I view the recording again it starts at the beginning, and I want to jump in large increments to the end.
