The NPC shadowrunners that form your party are mostly built pretty suboptimally and need buffs to function, which makes Dietrich almost required unless your main character brings good buffs.

Also, don't play on Hard. The game is RNG-heavy as it is, and Hard makes your attacks less accurate.

Maybe it's because I did make the mistake of playing the first half of Dragonfall on Hard, but I wasn't impressed with any of them. Eiger was better than the others, but they were all outclassed by available merc choices.

On Normal, they were okay, but the few times I didn't have Dietrich along for buffs I definitely noticed his absence. Glory was pretty much dead weight without him.
