I know there's a thread for this, but I'm having difficulty locating it. It's possible that I am blind. Does anyone have any advice for a first-time Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram player? I played it in my college arcade several years ago but it was the stick-equivalent of button mashing, and now that it's on the 360 I'd like to give it a proper go.

Nevermind, thread showed up again.

Who wants to be a rad dude and hand me some advice for Crisis Core? Not that it's remotely hard by any means (then again I'm only up to the fourth chapter or so...), but a little game breaking with prior knowledge never hurt anyone :v:

Months behind, I just picked up Metal Gear Solid 4 today. I have learned that my stealth skills have been reduced to those of an incontinent ten year old. I've triggered like four alerts within five minutes of getting the Mk.II because I am hopeless and inept.

I know the game had become more friendly to runnin and gunnin over the sequels, but it doesn't feel right. Someone give me some tips on how not to tip off everyone in a five mile radius :(

Use the Solid Eye as much as possible, and get friendly with the locals. They can keep enemies occupied as you stealth by. Also, you can get even stealthier by going completely flat on the ground (can't remember the button for this), and hiding in grass. Also, stay aware of your surroundings. Don't be afraid to go tranq crazy too. You'll get better with practice. Then you'll be able to throw on your iPod and rock out to your favorite tunes as you masterfully sneak by everything.

Will I be informed at some point as to how to "get friendly with the locals?"

Also I saw somewhere there are controls the manual makes literally zero mention of. Like shaking the controller to break your camo. Is there a reason for being able to do this? Any other 'hidden' controls I should know of?

So, La Mulana. I know there's a wiki entry, but I have a question not addressed there.

Is everything you need to know to beat the game hinted at either in game or the manual? I was watching the DeceasedCrab LP and I swear I have no idea how he figured out some of those hidden wall spots or what ROM combination let you warp to back-side areas or what some of the items do.

I believe every puzzle has a hint hidden on a monument somewhere. A lot of them are cryptic and not always near the puzzle they relate to, so be prepared to take a lot of notes if you want to beat the game without spoilers. I assume you're just trying to complete it and not collect every ROM or beat Hell Temple. (The hints to reach Hell Temple are so cryptic I'm amazed anyone figured it out. They make sense in retrospect at least...)

As far as breakable walls go, the easy thing to do is to try attacking all of them. If you get the map ROMs, the ones that lead to hidden rooms should show up on there at least. If anything blasts you with lightning, you have to find a different way to open it. Otherwise if you get a dinging sound, go through your weapons until you find the right one.

Blarg, I would love to play the game mostly because I love love love the music but I just have no patience for this variety of experimental gameplay anymore.

Oh well, thanks :(

Another question about La Mulana. Are there any instances of "ha ha you hosed up now you can't get this item/progress anymore!"? Especially the kind where you don't KNOW you hosed up until much much later (Quest for Glory-isms, I guess)?

Because those are completely loving lame and I want to have a list of those handy if I'm gonna play through this for meself, exploration game be damned.

It's been a while since I played it but IIRC it is possible to screw yourself out of both of the whip upgrades if you gently caress up the puzzle involved in their rooms. Also I think there's some way to mess up the poo poo with the medicine of life and the faries near the end of the game.

Grumble mutter grargh, I hate this kind of crap.

Oh well. Last question before I stop bugging the thread (hopefully): controller or keyboard?

gently caress, what series was I thinking of then. King's something? I don't remember.

Anyway, yeah, agreeing with the Deus Ex folks: get your points OUT of Pistols at creation if you don't intend to use them, and do one level--and ONLY one--in Swimming.

Okay turns out I DO have another La Mulana question. If I've summoned and killed the boss of an area (I've done Guidance Gate and Mausoleum of the Giants bosses so far), does that mean I've completed all the puzzles in that boss's area and I can stop exploring now, damnit?

I loved Metal Gear Solid, and liked MGS2 kinda except for Raiden, gently caress that guy. Basically I just like Snake lots, he's badass.

So I figured MGS3 would be good to try, because it's still basically Snake, and I don't mind retarded troll-the-audience plots. But when I tried playing it a coupla years back, I couldn't even sneak past the first guy, or get close enough to stealth-kill/knockout. I have no idea why, I had no problems with the previous 2, I had all the right camouflage crap on, I just sucked at this.

Anyway, I'm gonna give it another go but is there stuff I should know about sneaking in general to make it a bit easier? And any general foreknowledge would be appreciated too.

Use the D-pad.

No, seriously, that's the whole trick to sneaking.

Hey sup gonna give La Mulana another try, and had some followup questions to those I asked previously in the thread.

- Besides the two whip upgrades, is there anything else I can permanently miss/gently caress up? Life crystals, ROMs, etc?

- SSCC or SS88 music? :v:

- Is figuring out how to get into Hell Temple with just the hints the game provides even remotely realistic/possible, or should I just rewatch Deceased Crab's videos for that?

You level up via types of weapons. Therefore it is optimal to constantly keep switching guns/grenades between party members so you keep leveling constantly.

Jumping is your friend, as lots and lots of enemies are only truly vulnerable from overhead or behind them etc.

If you have a mission to escort a thing damage stays between rooms with no way to repair short of paying an absurd penalty to repair it. Basically, if you can't progress, quit level/up gun, and try again with better strategy.

Starting at Chapter 6 you can make infinite money. One of the items you can craft (wanna say beta scopes) sells for a bit less than it costs to forge and the parts can be bought in infinite supply from the traveling salesman. Don't hesitate to exploit this, poo poo is expensive.

Any quest must be completed in the chapter you receive it or it is gone forever. Want the reward? Do the quest.

You can equip 10 scopes to a gun and they will all give you a bonus. A fully tricked out gun at the end should have dozens of scopes, clips, grips and barrels.
Is there an explanation anywhere of what the different customization stats refer to? Some are self explanatory, but for example, what the hell is the difference between Charge Time and Charge Acceleration? :psyduck:

Is the stuff in the wiki for TES V: Skyrim pretty up to date with respect to patches and DLC changing the game? Last time I played was over a year ago, and by 'played' i mean 'did Helgen like 50 times trying to pick a race/archetype', so I want to give it another go.

I asked in the Skyrim Saints forum (that's still there? :stare:) about SPERG and if it would be any good for a newbie, yeah. SkyUI's also a given, I remember that much, but I've never heard of Frostfall. I'll google that.

One thing I've decided since the last time I tried this game is the kind of character I like to play in games that allow the choice, which is in order of preference:

- A magic user who makes a big flashy goddamned spectacle of himself (so top tier destruction stuff in this game I guess)
- Get the heaviest armor, the biggest hammer, and the smallest brain and proceed to Give Not A gently caress

Is being a heavily destruction based magic user viable or does the magic system kinda require me to branch out into physical stuff? If it's the latter I might as well proceed to character 2 straight off :v:

I don't think this very basic advice is on the wiki, and it takes (or at least took me) a while to figure out:
Killing Orcs with a bunch of different damage sources at once generates combos, which translate into money, which translate into more traps. Stringing traps along a length of corridor or whatever is actually the least optimal strategy.

What sorts of combos are these? I only ever played the first game by doing exactly this and it basically sort-of worked.

I've finished the initial prologue run as a Dwarf Decker (because a dwarf with a keyboard is :coal:); anything I should know about stat allocation, playstyle, etc?
