As a new rider, a Ninja 250 will put the fear of god into you. Its more then capable up to highway speeds, though you'll have to plan out your passes.

So I want to power things off my bike. Is it just a matter of hooking up a fuse box to my battery and plugging things in there? Think GPS/Ham radio/camera/ipod charger type stuff. Also how much can I safely pull from my 250 without having to worry about ending up with a dead battery?

CGameProgrammer posted:Are you talking about when the motorcycle is on or off? If the former, it depends entirely on the current of the alternator. If the latter, it depends on the capacity in amp-hours of the battery. Former, I'd just unplug/remove said devices from the bike when it's not running.

I just ran down to the homedepot and bought 7ft of the thickest chain they had, and a solid lock. The Honda Shadow a few buildings down is polished to a high shine and isn't locked to anything so I think I'm set.

For what it's worth I was a heartbeat away from jumping on this deal http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mcy/899940173.html a few weeks ago; however after reading up a bit on vfrworld, apparently some of the parts are starting to get really hard to find. They look awesome though, esp. in the tricolor scheme.

I'm buying a Pit Bull newfront stand on craigslist for cheap. Do I need the rear stand as well or should the center stand on the ninja250 be fine for supporting the bike? I plan on working on the brakes and changing the tire.

The 865cc parallel twin might be disappointing to someone coming from sport-bike background, but stock it has enough power to keep things interesting. Just don't expect an OMG liter bike roflcopter. I've had mild performance upgrades on mine and it now has more power than I care to use. It's comfortable, reliable, handles well, and as you pointed out looks amazing. Most people who ask about it assume it's either vintage or completely custom. That bike looks amazing, how comfortable would it be for touring? Keep in mind I'm coming from a Ninja 250.

Ola posted:Any opinions on cramp busters / throttle rockers? I bought one figuring I'd give that a try before I look further into raising my bars (I get throttle hand fatigue on longer hauls). I just bought one myself, and took an extended ride on it a week or two ago. Due to its design when you push down on it, it actually tightens its grip on the throttle so it won't slip while applying throttle. You can however adjust it by pushing it up (and thus closing the throttle), this way you can set it to whatever throttle position you want. I could see some inadvertent throttle application when first getting used to it, but after using it for a bit it wasn't too difficult to use. The one caveat, is I found it a bitch to use in around town traffic because as I ride a 250 I have to set it to have a large portion of the throttle open while cruising on the highway, and very little while cruising on the surface streets around town. This means that after setting it to use on the highway, if I exited the highway the rocker was just getting in the way while going slower around town. This might not be a problem on a bigger bike with more power as you could get in the right gear to make it work though. I'd give it a 2.5 out of 5 stars, only because its so cheap.

I'm looking to carry (at most) a few folders, a wallet, and a phone. I'd recommend saddle bags, as they're just too drat convenient. Though if you want something aerodynamic almost any tank bag will work for you, doubly so if you want to carry passengers, as a tank bag would rule that out.
