Womp womp.

Time for a cheapo guy off Amazon.

Later I might invest in something that simplifies this ungodly mess of devices - power and cord for Bluetooth dongle, amp, and now pre-amp.

Here's a start: "phono input" means an amplifier (receiver? Which is something + amplifier + maybe more?) has a built in (phono) preamp for a turntable?

Receiver means it is also a radio tuner. The term is mostly used for vintage gear. Yeah you just need something with a phono input, but using a cheap external preamp is fine too.

Larger amps and receivers will often have a switched power outlet on the back so you can plug your secondary devices into it and they will turn off/on with it. It helps with the cord problem.

Feelin' it so hard.

Wondering if someone could help me out. I was just given a Kenwood DP-J2070 100 Disc changer and it doesn't seem to be "grabbing" the cds from the slot. I was hoping to see if it was something obvious but it seems hifiengine has closed registration and my vinylengine login doesn't work for it. Can anyone with an account snag me the service manual?

Thank you! I don't even know if I want to keep the thing but it would be nice to fix it before sending it on it's way.

Can someone grab this manual for me off of hifi engine? https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/pioneer/ct-w770.shtml
They still require an account and still, years later, have not reopened for registration :(

edit: vvvv thanks!

So what’s the deal there anyway? Guy who owns the website afraid he’ll be taken down by copyright on the manuals or something? I haven’t looked around the site too much but it sounds like a huge resource that would be extremely helpful getting service manuals in order to keep this older equipment going for a long time.
Bummed that it’s not more open to new users

We have a similar thing in camera repair, in the end he just started charging $1 a manual so he'd stop getting hit by scrapers and having his hosting bill run up. They should do the same, just a nominal fee to keep their hosting bills down.

I mean the right thing to do is just dump them all on archive.org and then they wouldn't need to host them at all.

It lights up and it has a fake segmented display because they were cool and futuristic , everyone notices and comments on it even if they're not into vinyl too. They're also really heavy and well isolated. You probably shouldn't. I love mine.

That one's a little bit of a different model but it still has the nice tone arm rest that lowers it gently onto the record when you hit play, and lifts it before stopping the motor, which is neat.

I recognize the store that's from and highly recommend them. All their used gear is in tip top shape, and they'll often pull it out for you and hook it up in their listening room for you to demo (so long as they're not busy/it's not 30 minutes to close). If I were in the market for a turntable I'd absolutely snatch that up haha.

I'm actually shocked they're an ongoing business. Every time I've been in that area they seemed closed to me. I have been to the Definitive Audio store on the same block (Wild how seattle has a hifi district), that's where I purchased my NAD C368 dac/amp.

Are the capacitor kits you find on ebay all trash or are there any with good components? I'm recapping at least the power supply in a Marantz 2325.

I got a recap kit for my 2230 from “peace.love.and.music” on eBay. All seem to be high end components. Kinda expensive, but I didn’t have to source dozens of individual components.

Yeah that seems to be one of the more expensive sellers but it seems complete, if I have all the parts I'd replace them. It still works but doesn't sound as good as it should anymore.

I saw a couple others that were a bit cheaper but they also had the bulbs I wanted. So combining shipping made it worthwhile.
