Hello, I bought a Audio-Technica LP3 to listen to records. I have not bought any powered speakers, but I have used CRT speaker and speakers that received power over speaker wire using a wire to rca converter. Every time, the audio is very quiet, and I cannot hear anything. I tried changing the cartridge and adjusting tracking, but no luck (other than my records sounding better). What should I do? Any helpful tips

thank you for reading

I just looked up the LP3 and it already has a built in pre amp (I assume you have the correct settings otherwise on the LP3 i.e. AUX/Line out not Phono) so you're just going to need a small amp to drive your speakers.

Thanks for the help. What do you recommend for a small amp?

Sorry for the noob questions, ever worked with vinyl before

Hi, on the recommendation of this thread, i got this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078WFDR8D?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details. Sounds great over my headphones! Do you guys have any recommendations for good speakers <$175 to pair with this

I love vintage poo poo (proud owner of some KEF R101s) but I’m not sure I’d just recommend it outright to anyone? OP could be an audiophile, I suppose

I’d just urge caution with vintage stuff unless you know what you’re looking for. They’ll often also have old style connections (no bananas) which can be a PIA depending on your setup. I took mine into a well known local stereo guy for some TLC, and to upgrade the connectors.

You can find good stuff, but with a budget of $150, eh, just get something new maybe. Can find decent bookshelves for that price especially (new or second hand). Not sure OP said what size they were looking for

I'm looking for some bookshelf speakers. I have a pair of old hand-me-down Sony SS-RXD2s that i'm using rn, but I want something that sounds a bit nicer

Have you checked your local Facebook/Craigslist?

If you do, and you find bookshelves in your price range, feel free to post them here and you will certainly get advice on which ones to buy. I know I’ll take a look.

of these 3 which ones are the best?

I think I would go with the 3rd one. Older infinities were pretty good.

And honestly you might like the Bose. Are you going to be doing more near-field listening or turning it up loud to fill a room?

It'd be near me because my turntable is in a small room
