There's also some filetypes that Winamp (for example) will happily play, but iTunes will ignore. When I finally broke down and imported my library to iTunes, it popped up a message saying so-and-so is an invalid media type and can't be loaded.

Hmm, does the Apple Software Updater thing utilize iTunes 64 bit?

I had the 64 bit version of iTunes 8.0 installed, and ran the Apple updater. Now, i'm running the 32 bit version of 8.1.

Yeah, if you try to add a directory to your library that contains individual songs AND a playlist, it'll add everything twice.
