C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America is a 2004 mockumentary directed by Kevin Willmott. It is a fictional account of an alternate history in which the Confederates won the American Civil War. This viewpoint is used to satirize subsequent issues and events in American culture. C.S.A was released on DVD on August 8, 2006.

I really enjoyed this film, while there are some historical implausibilities, in addition to an alternate civil war, it illustrates how our history would have gone if instead of white southern racists being pandered to by the government, hindering our social progress, they dominated the discourse. C.S.A shows the Crimes of the United States of America cranked up to 11, where at every turning point in our history, America had taken the most evil option possible. Instead of overthrowing democratically elected socialist countries in the global south, the CSA led a war of conquest. Instead of hesitation to fight Hitler, the C.S.A. remained neutral. Instead of the civil rights movement, there were slave rebellions violently put down. And instead of cold war with Russia and an Iron curtain, Canada and America are enemies separated by the cotton curtain due to Canada housing runaway slaves.

It really illustrates how absolutely evil the cause of the south was. I've always been ashamed that my ancestors both owned slaves and fought for secession. It's a great film to start a dialogue about race.
