Nightbreed's a good film that was better with the director's cut but was amazing in the comic book series from it.

Back when I was in college my sociology 101 professor had us write a paper analyzing any film we wanted using the various concepts we'd learned in class as our final. To show us an example she gave us all a complete essay she'd written on the sociological implications of Nightbreed.

She also said that her brother was abducted by the aliens from Dreamcatcher. That class ruled.

I saw Claudio Simonetti's Goblin last night. They started by doing a live score for Suspiria and followed with a set of greatest hits.

This was the second time I've seen Suspiria in a theatrical setting this year. CS Goblin sounded great and seeing the movie with the score that loud is intense. Only problem was that the venue was standing only and shoulder to shoulder and that is an odd movie experience, especially considering there's only music for maybe 1/3 of that film. I will confess that I spent some time drinking beer in the lobby during the Suspiria screening.

The secondary set was really great. Scenes from whatever score was being done were shown throughout and they were often little five minute summaries of the entire films (massive spoilers if there was anybody there who hadn't seen all the films obviously). The usual suspects were played: Profondo Rosso, Tenebre, even Phenomena and a tribute to George Romero while they did the Dawn of the Dead (ending with a fade in of a photo of George), but the highlight for me was that they actually did Demons.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHqd3rRGbEU
(this video isn't from my show (I'm not that guy holding his phone over his head for the whole show) and it loses something with the phone recording but you get the idea)

Simonetti said last night was the wrap of their North American tour, but if they continue wherever you live or they return, I'd recommend checking them out.

It's the story of a camgirl who does everything stupidly, basically.
I also don't understand how it has been hailed as "woke" or feminist, considering that the main character uses extreme violence on herself for masturbating male costumers, who get off on seeing a woman bleed. The ending also didn't make any sense (is she going to keep breaking her nose every time the AI comes back?) not to mention that the mother helping her makeup before she whores herself out again was just cringy as all hell.

Well first you have to accept that sex work is real work, and the writer of the film was/is a cam performer. It's feminist in the sense that she has complete agency over her decisions (until she doesn't, and her agency is taken away completely, which is the horror aspect and main conceit of the film). There's nothing cringey about the mother helping her in her career since lots of sex workers parents are fine with their chosen profession.

The idea of the ending, as I understand it, is that her act reveals that the AI exists, and presumably they would stop using it after that.

There must be untold amounts of marketing material like this for every sequel they did, Englund was loving it and Freddy was the only horror icon that could really be used in that way commercially so I imagine they did a ton of it. I wonder if a lot of it is still floating around on youtube like that one is.

My favorite oddball Elm St. Promo is this unique spot they made for their European market where Freddy forces some office stooge to sit through all the trailers for their upcoming releases.

I know that it isn't in vogue to criticize any sex workers, but She quite literally profits from people who masturbate watching her hurt herself. that's honestly worth shaming someone for, and not helping your daughter do it.

There are better and more respectful depictions of sex workers in arrested development than in this thing.

Not really, it uses the mouth as a tool to bash holes in their skulls but I don't remember there being a scene where we see them actually eat with it.

It happens. The alien is shown shoving it’s inner mouth into the kids over and over (ooh) which might seem like it’s eating. Then the Predator just walks behind it and kills it. Pathetic.

In Alien 3 it sorta eats people.

The inner mouth is also good for knocking people out to take them to the hive.

- party blower
- accessorizing with a tiny hat or scarf
- getting to the bottom of a Pringle’s can

My main issue with it is honestly the glorification of Camgirl culture. They make it all out to be like a competitive social networking thing where the girls are all empowered and roommates/friends, when in reality they fall prey to the same abuses that all sex workers do. Its just irresponsible film making, especially considering the writer's background. Also the movie kinda sucked. The song was my favorite part.

There isn't one type of cam girl, friend. There are plenty of cam girls that are empowered and not victim to abuse. I have friends that are successful cam girls that work for themselves, are in healthy relationships, and are happier than my friends with 9-5 jobs.

I haven't seen the movie, but sex work isn't an easily defined field where you can point to it and say "These are allllll victims!"

Yep. I too have friends in the biz and cam girling is arguably one of the safest forms of sex work because it keeps agency and control in the hands of the girls themselves. That’s not to say abuse doesn’t exist in that particular sub-industry, but the environment and circumstances tend to be more directly controlled by those who are participatory in it from my experience.

I have friends that did it for a while and its a viable income for someone that's, say, suffering from social anxiety or chronic pain, since you work on your own schedule and don't have to interact with anyone in person and can effectively work from bed. Considering how many non-sex jobs involve some kind of worker exploitation and even abuse, I don't know why camming is that much worse than others, when it's entered into by choice.
