I'll be reteaching the wife how to drive a manual in it, she hasn't in over 10 years and that was just big trucks at low speed. I will say even though I've never driven anything but manuals I'm inconsistent at best getting a smooth start out of this thing, maybe I've been spoiled with power and torque.

First stop we made after unloading from the truck was gas station because it was very empty. Start filling up and a guy comes running over from the Euro car shop next door. He's a fairly recent Polish immigrant who grew up with 126s and told me stories about cruising the autobahn at 140kph with his entire family crammed in the thing. Also gave me some tips about common issues and temporary fixes to get home. I guess we found our shop if there's anything I don't feel like tackling.

Anyone heading to US129/Dragon hit it midweek to avoid traffic and getting stuck behind someone doing 15mph for the whole thing. There's a ton of nice roads in the area as well that are less well known and have less traffic. Also hit the Cherohala skyway and foothills parkway for less tight turns but better flow and views.

After swearing I would never own a black on black car for daily use, deciding I was going to stick to EV for commuting duty and was going to stick to formula and sports racers for track use I bought this.

2006 Cayman S manual with 92.6k miles which will be my daily and see a couple track days a year. I was looking at 70's 911s but the prices are a bit more than I felt comfortable spending for a 50 year old car and this will probably be a better commuter.

Super comfortable, very quiet, seats fit my fat rear end, yeah I love this car. I didn't feel tired climbing out of it this evening. Suspension is surprisingly comfortable, and I was able to wring it up on a desolate stretch of highway and hear the whine. Honestly only downside is the awful exhaust it's got on it hiding the whine at low speeds. I'll need to switch it out at some point.

It's funny, I remember seeing/reading about these at one point then forgot they existed just like everyone else. Then this weekend while out for a drive I saw one. That's a good looking car in person as well.

Thanks! I have track pads and am using rbf600 but I haven’t put ducts in yet. It only happens at Pocono; the straight in the configuration I’ve run in is really too short to properly cool everything off and the rest of the track is heavy on the brakes. I actually tried different lines this year with different, shorter, and more abrupt braking points which did help a bit but not enough.

I’ll probably put in ducts over the winter; take out the fog lights for the openings.

After a less than great experience with the 1979 Fiat we picked up on Thanksgiving 2020 my wife was looking to try again and with nice spring weather she really wanted a convertible. This little thing popped up on fb marketplace about a half hour from us, test drove it on the 20th and brought it home on the 22nd. 1985 VW Cabriolet with the little 1.8L and a 5-speed, nice cloth interior. Odometer, with broken gears of course, shows 79k miles but overall condition I'd guess it's in the 80-90k range or maybe 100k. Paint is in good shape, interior is really good other than some strange trim damage. Will be something to tinker with and she wants to learn basic auto maintenance with it. Runs good other that right when it starts, smells overly rich.

It is under the dash but it's the worlds stubbiests shifter and only has a couple inches of throw so it works. The car is so small there's no reaching for anything really. Your hand is partially under the dash for R/1/3/5 gears. The parking brake, yes it has one, is also under the dash...on the firewall of the passenger side and you pull it towards yourself. Added pics to end of post.

Before this I had the Locost powered by a Yamaha R1 engine, it was fun but I could never trust it 100% and it was pretty crude even compared to this thing. I had originally been looking for an older more original and lower powered car, wanted something with a Ford Crossflow engine and had passed on a couple with the Rover k-series 1.4L but this one popped up and... Paid a bit more than I planned to spend for a toy, most I've paid for any car in my life to get the least amount of car. This car feels smaller than the Locost even though dimensionally it's nearly identical.

I'll probably start a thread at some point for this and other projects. Want to do a full fluid replacement, general clean up and see if I can adjust a few things.
