Here's my 1-year-old (to me) B9 A4 in Gotland green:

First mod was an 034 Intake, followed by 034 transmission mount insert, OEM Black Optic grille, OEM Black Optic rear badging, 2.0T badge removal, and vinyl wrapping the window trim black.

Latest mods are 034 subframe mount inserts, Unitronic Stage 1+ tune, Vorsteiner 19" VFF-103s in Graphite, ABT Height Adjustable Suspension (she needs to go back in to get lowered some more), and '21 OEM RS aluminum paddles. I also vinyled the front chrome fog inserts black to match the rest of the exterior trim. On the fence about adding in black optic front rings.

Extremely happy with it thus far!

Not a bad car though, tbh, with a 5 speed it’s quite enjoyable.

I guess I am all types of loving up, lol. Sorry, Toyota Hilux (direct from Japan?), and is there even such thing as an A6L? My bad haha, it was the reflection of the badge that threw me off.

Welp, Automotive Insanity, indeed. But am I insane if it's the upgraded model/trim with less miles and a 1 of 17 exterior/interior combo for 2018?

The S4 had 36k miles from one owner prior. Had it shipped from a Ford dealer in New Mexico and was the only Gotland Green S4 I could find on the internet with Rotor Gray interior to boot. I'm happy I can swap over all of the 034 suspension/stability parts and the RS6 paddle shifters (the actual shifters, not the TIE fighter extensions :D), as well as the Black Optics grille and Vorsteiner wheels (will be silver soon). Other than that, it drives great stock but will likely tune it and add some bolt-ons after paint correction and ceramic coating.

Your post made me do some looking and now I have been eyeballing Urus or some fancier Audi shifter paddles, the stock ones on my Q5 aren’t nearly as nice-feeling as my Hyundai’s were.

That's rad! I'd love to see a pic some time. You know what they say - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But they didn't say anything about buying another

Just a background my car is a CPO'd cayman:

- Picked it up and the car had a broken center console USB port and leaky CV joint
- Porsche fixed it under warranty but it took 8 weeks and when they brought my car back they didn't attach the rear brake ducting so it went right back to the shop because the ducting was just dragging on the ground
- Belt tensioner broke and took the belt with it
- Passenger window motor died
- The drive mode selector will randomly start going through drive modes
- Rear camera works 50% of the time

I've had the car a year this month and while I can deal with an unreliable car it's really the Porsche dealer support that is a big let down. Top to bottom from buying my car to taking it for warranty repairs Porsche dealers are some of the worst I've ever dealt with. I love my car but I cant wait to get rid of it.

Those all are horrendous issues for a newer car from Porsche who you'd think pride themselves on quality builds. You think it's a "lemon" or issues common for that model/generation?

Speaking of engine bays, here's a recent pic of APR's coil packs, as well Integrated Engineering's intake and turbo inlet which I installed earlier this week. Install wasn't too bad, the inlet turbo adapter had a very skinny o-ring on each side that needed to be held place while mating to the turbo & inlet which was fun. Extra turbo pic with some New Mexican dirt making an appearance.

slandergoose posted:

I think it's multifaceted personally. Porsche has this reputation of reliability but after owning one and hanging with other Porsche owners online and in person they really do spend a lot of time in the shop. My buddy's dad had a 992 Carrera S that suffered turbo failure at 500 miles, that same buddy owned a 2017 991.2 and it was always in the shop, the last straw was his getting his radiator fixed, the dealer didn't secure the hoses properly so when he drove away it spewed coolant everywhere.

I think it makes it doubly bad because the dealers in my region are true clowns. I bought a CPO because I wanted piece of mind against repairs for a used car but I'm convinced that shops here are incompetent. Every time I get my car back there is always a random tool left somewhere, or some trim piece not attached, or in my last repair a trim tab broken so now my cabin rattles like loving crazy.

I snapped the last time I was getting work done, every time I bring my car in I get some stupid rear end spiel about Porsches racing heritage and reliability and I just went "dude, shut the hell up with this reliability bullshit, why would I take my car to the track when it can't make it to McD's"

There is also a strong cult following with Porsche, I posted on rennlist about my car/dealer expereience and I got flooded with "MY CAR HAS A BILLION MILES IT AMAZING, NO PORSCHE HAS HAD ANY PROBLEMS EVER"

Anyway, end rant lol. I'm putting an order in for an M3 in a few weeks so I'll be rid of it soon enough.

That's an awesome S4! How reliable are those tunes? I remember going down the rabbit hole of APR tunes on Audi and they seemed like they were fairly reliable.

That's a bummer cause I would have figured under the VAG umbrella you hear of good overall build quality. The dealership issues sound awful, I feel for you there. The Audi dealer I have worked with over the past few years has been great. The service advisor I primarily worked with even asked their techs not to scan my car when it was in for service unless absolutely required (it would flag it TD1 which meant ECU modified/tuned) - helping to preserve my CPO warranty at the time.

My previous A4's 2.0T was Unitronic Stage 1-2 tuned for about 40-50k miles with no issues and the 3.0T V6 in the S4 is very tunable as well. Thankfully I have not heard of many reliability issues for the B9 platform in general or even when tuned. I think some of the Stage 3 folks running ethanol might see some potential injector problems here and there. It's crazy how much the software modifications wake up these cars.

When owners poke fun at their own vehicles I gotta appreciate it. Awesome car, buck teeth or not!

In all honesty some aftermarket brand could make a killing with body kits for this generation of BMWs. They also have at least one up on Audi for keeping the multimedia dial around (presumably the dial in the center behind the shifter). Touchscreen only BS is the worst.
