Replacing front axles in a parking lot somewhere in Maryland, on a roadtrip from Maine to North Carolina.
It pissed me the gently caress off at 1AM when it seized up (yes, I had an axle seize). But the next day I rode my home made moped to napa and bought more axles. It wasn't so bad....
lovely picture, I wasn't in the mood for good pictures.

I sort of forgot about my other car, 98 Legacy GT. I got it for $400 because it had a bad engine.
So I put an engine in it that I got for free..... You get what you pay for.
Anyway, the day before I was moving from Maine to North Carolina, the engine hemorrhaged all it's oil and seized. So I drove my 89 GL instead. (cue very AI adventure)
But now I'm back in ME faced with the issue of how the hell do I get a seized engine off an automatic transmission... Anyway, it's a pretty car. It looks nice sitting in a snow bank...

How much has that thing been raced? I love having a Subaru that's seen more miles than most normal-people cars do plus more racing than most Subarus do.

That's the first time I've actually raced it at a rallyx. But that's noting abuse wise compared to literally hundreds of miles of that style driving on logging roads.
I've had this car thousands of miles from home doing stupid poo poo on beaches, etc. It gives no fucks.

And there's no way to tabulate the miles on it. The engine, tranny, rear end, suspension, etc are all swapped and changed out. I have no idea how many miles on replacement units, and the speedo is broken, so no idea how many miles I've added.

Just going to clean her up and make her more presentable. Later on down the road possibly stuff in a spare 4.3L V6 Turbo engine from a GMC Typhoon I have laying around.. if it would even remotely fit.

Please don't do that. The BRAT is starting to be a pretty rare vehicle. Take a look on http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/.
There is a lot of knowledge on there about older subarus. Anyway, a v6 won't fit. Even an EJ motor won't really fit without some clearancing. The engine in there is the ea81, a pushrod 1.8 rated at 73hp with a carb.
There are better carbs you can get for those that make a HUGE difference, also, EFI swap from newer GL/loyale isn't that hard.
I have a newer GL with that motor swapped in and EFI on it, it's not THAT slow. Especially considering it's lifted with bigger tires. It'll do 70 on the highway with minimal complaining. With EFI or a decent carb it's good for around 80hp and 100ft/lbs torque. Which isn't bad for a car that weighs 2000lbs.

A cool swap in these is the ej22 with an awd 5speed transmission, it's a bit of work, but it's such a small car that the upgrade to 135hp makes it pretty quick.

I just bought shitbox number 11 (I think, I've lost count).
It is, however, My First Toyota.

When I bought it the rear hatch wouldn't open, back glass didn't move, the whole thing was disgusting, and 4x4 only worked if you hit the actuator with a hammer...

I figured since it worked at all it was probably something I could fix, took a gamble and talked the guy down to $3000. I had to do some pro-fabricobbling to get the hatch working without buying expensive parts. The 4x4 actuator took a bit of tinkering, but everything works now. Pretty happy none of the repairs cost me any money. I also spent almost 2 hours cleaning the interior... The PO was a family with kids, dude was super meticulous about maintenance, but wife wasn't about interior cleanliness...

Car has 220k miles, new frame, new steering rack, new brake and fuel lines, looks like a new gas tank as well. Good tires, working front/rear AC and heat, and now that I've fixed those problems nothing seems wrong with it.
It starts right up, perfectly smooth, really quiet engine. It actually weirds me out I'm so used to subarus and old diesels. A quiet engine just doesn't seem right...

More tinkering today, the light bar off my last subaru needs to go on. It's kinda bent and dinged up and pretty scorched from the car catching on fire in the crash, but it still works. I also hate running boards, so those are probably going.

I think it's a 2UZ, actually. I like a quiet daily driver. Loud cars are fun to be obnoxious with, but I don't want to get a headache on a roadtrip or something from noise.

Running boards gone and light bar installed on the turd!
I upset the traction control by disconnecting the battery, you have to do a ridiculous dance of turning the wheel back and forth, pushing buttons, driving in half circles, etc to re-calibrate it. It's kind of like quitting a program on a mac computer, or making it start up from a disc or something.

All but one nut/bolt either came out or broke off. The hardest one to access turned into an infinite point bolt head so I got to do some welding.
