Blowdryer posted:Yeeaahhhh I realized that after listening to it and was just like oh well better luck next time. But I'm super stoked that you at least thought that transition was good. Do you think I've gotten to the point to where I should get some hardware? I've just been using my laptop keyboard and mouse with no headphones or anything. Kinda interested in one of these: http://www.numark.com/product/mixtrackpro I know this isn't the hardware thread but I'll reply here anyways. I started off the same way as you, Virtual DJ with no sound card or headphones or anything. It helped me learn some of the basics..but without being able to cue up your next track, listen to it along with your current track etc you're going to be seriously limiting your ability to grow. Same goes for a lack of physical controls. There's a lot you can do just DJing with a keyboard and mouse but you'll never get the kind of fine control that a number of knobs and sliders will give you (as well as the ability to adjust more than one thing on the fly). EQ blending is SO MUCH EASIER with knobs.. SO SO MUCH EASIER. The Mixtrack Pro is a great bet, it has a built in audio interface, a good number of knobs and dials and solid enough construction that you'll be able to bang away at it for a while. And it's cheap enough that you'll be able to learn on it but won't feel bad about getting rid of it when it's time to move to something more serious. This is what I should have gotten instead of my Hercules RMX (which was a good purchase too but a little long in the tooth when I bought it). If I had one piece of advice to give you on your mixing itself (I like your song choices) it would be to spend some time learning about phrasing. This article from DJ TechTools covers it pretty well and I bring it up because I noticed your mix-ins can sound a little early/late, like they could have waited a bar or two to start. I think everybody does this at first..my first bunch of mixes are TERRIBLE for this and I shake my head wondering what I was thinking at the time. Ahh, learning is fun Edit: I'd love some feedback on a moombahton mix I did last month, moombahton is kind of my thing and I've been whoring it madly for the last year or so. It's a real genre, I swears! Rickets fucked around with this message at 06:30 on Mar 16, 2012 |

DreddyMatt posted:Holy triple post! I love glitch but for some reason I never mix it.. thanks for doing it for me (seeing as we seem to have very simliar tastes). Great, (mostly) clean mix, solid transition points and a good flow keeps me happy Your crossfader incident wasn't so bad at all. What are you mixing on? I just finished up a quick moombahton/moombahcore mix last night, the first thing I've recorded and put online since I got my NS6. Tracklist: Casey van Buren ft LA Yaute - Something (Original Mix) Run DMT - Bass Drum (Mackai Remix) Diplo ft Nicky B - Express Yourself (Original Mix) Diplo - Horsey (Original Mix) Lady - Twerk It (ETC!ETC! MoombahFix) Kreayshawn - Gucci Gucci (Crowd Control Moombahcore Remix) Torro Torro - Country Club (Crowd Control Remix) Excision, Downlink - Reploid (Neon Steve Remix) Skrillex - Ruffneck (Multiplier's Moombahcore Edit) Listen here Does anybody else here use and record out of ITCH? I had to amplify the resulting audio a LOT to get it to an acceptable level (and everything was turned up in ITCH), I'm wondering if that's a common thing? Suicidal Spider posted:This is sick! I don't know any of tunes so it sounds extremely fresh to my ears - never even heard of "moombahton" before but I have to say I enjoy it! Seamless mixing too - not once did I notice the tune change. You got a mix/soundcloud so I can follow you? Glad I could be the one to break your cherry! Moombahton is going to be big news this year, I think it's big news already and I'm glad you like it. My soundcloud is http://soundcloud.com/djdbld, I appreciate the feedback Suicidal Spider posted:Hello all. I've only been mixing for about 3 months but I put a lot of love and care into this tracklist and recorded it about 6 times before I was happy with it. This is really drat good, you've only been mixing for three months? You've got an ear for it, this is really smooth and I'm digging the heavy reggae/dub feel. Reminds me of some shows I've seen at crazy 3 day backwoods parties SUMMER IS COMING! I'm downloading this to play cruising around in my car DreddyMatt posted:Thanks for the feedback. Not really been mixing for very long, but always had an ear for tunes. I loved the first 10 minutes of your mix, then the soundcloud player cut out on me as it often does with wav files. I'll post more feedback when it finishes downloading in an hour but what I heard was tight. Rather, it was fresh. So fresh. Rickets fucked around with this message at 18:56 on Apr 8, 2012 |

Blowdryer posted:Just recorded a mix last night high as hell at the end of my night. I'm on vacation in LA so I didn't have my controller so I opened up virtual dj (HELL YEAH) and made this. I only listened through it once but I'm fairly sure the only places I hosed up was I started one loop a tiny bit too late (live looping is hard ) and I think the B side drop I decided to do isn't that great. This is surprisingly good for just VDJ and no Controller.. the only messup I really heard was Feel So Close -> Civilization (your loop felt off something), but I started with just a keyboad and VDJ and I was a lot worse than this so I have a hard time nitpicking I like the eclectic mix of songs, funk is all right with me and anybody who mixes in some Willy Smith is to me Spam Man posted:Got a new mix for anyone who enjoyed the Chicago House sound.
