Alman posted:So I'm starting to build up my collection (since my dance/house/dubstep/drumnbass collection is pretty minimalist) in order to start doing some mixing. What are some essentials I should check out? Obviously I've got artists like Daft Punk, Justice, Pendulum, Chase and Status, Subfocus, and Deadmau5, but I'm sure there are other albums that are pretty much essentials? You should really ask that question in this thread

Calculon posted:Any thoughts? You should also try to spread out the artists, especially towards the end. At the end it just seemed like you ran out of ideas for artists and just kind of went through your iTunes and placed songs without really thinking about variation. In your defense making an almost three hour mix will have alot of repeat artists.

I'm all jumping and waving my hands and banging my fist... and if my last track is something really banging, I'm all over the place dancing around like an idiot. Dancing onstage is perfectly acceptable, especially if others are dancing in the crowd.

Question: When you guys record your mixes and then put them on soundcloud do you just put it up there as whatever you recorded it as, or do you convert it first? This will be my first time putting anything on soundcloud

Socket Ryanist posted:I honestly think the main reason dance music (especially straight beat dance music) is so unpopular in the US is because of our rampant homophobia and obsession with masculinity (because only queers and women like that disco crap). Most working-class guys I know would be shy to admit that they enjoy house or trance, but will happily talk about how they love dubstep because "it gets the girls' panties wet". I seriously doubt its this, unless you live in the deep south or near one of the most republican. Its mainly because the majority of American's have terrible tastes. I've played for mexicans (who make quite possibly the craziest awesome crowd) and I've played for europeans, and they are a great crowd, but every time I've played for only people from around here that are white I have been harassed for playing house and not playing dubstep. Americans have terrible taste in almost everything including music, and that wont change...

OG KUSH BLUNTS posted:This is a really bad generalization and not even correct. If Americans had such awful tastes than the rest of the world wouldn't be copying everything we do/buying all of our music/movies/tv shows/ clothing/etc. I was spinning at a party that was literally billed as a house music party. the title of the party was literally: "I love electro, house and techno" and just because american's lead trends doesn't mean they aren't horrible.

RoboTiio posted:Is this thread chill for dropping remixes (not a mash-up)? I generally don't do the DJ thing (I mainly focus on original production and engineering), but I heard a song on a comedy show the other day that was just begging to be cut up. It's my first shot at seeing a remix through to the end, 'cause the source material was inspirational and drat near perfect for chopping. Is it a house or electro song? put it in the House/electro whatever thread!
